a single unit.
It can also be mint mark's for multiple units.

Presumably without the apostrophe.
Although one could refer to "a mint mark's shape" or something like that.
All snark aside:
Technically, it appears that "mintmark" isn't considered a word. At least no spell checker I know of will fail to flag it. But then how do compound words form in the first place? People make the same "mistake" over and over again, until it becomes accepted even by the folks who set themselves up as prescribing what is and is not proper English.
I can personally go with either way, but of course if you ask me what the "authorities" on proper English usage say, I will tell you that they don't consider "mintmark" a word.
