Gift Ideas

nagsnags Posts: 833 ✭✭✭✭
I have a few nieces, nephews... that I give gifts to each year. I was going to start giving them some numismatic item each year which may spark an interest and may potentially be worth something for them down the road. I'd be thinking of something in the $100-$200 range for each. Any ideas? Silver pucks were my first thought. Anything better ideas?

Off center error coins from their birth year.

If they were born before 2001 and easy task if after 2001 then forget about it as the coins would be super rare.

PCGS certified MS65 Peace or Morgan Dollars. They will have numismatic and bullion appreciation possibilities. Over time you could vary the dates. If these cost too much for you, consider Franklin Halves.
  • I agree with the Peace Dollars I got a 1923 MS64 PCGS yesterday for $62.00 and they are very interesting to look at. My boys like them a lot and have been asking for them.

Maybe a nice old Type coin like a slabbed circ Seated Quarter or Half and a slabbed Silver American Eagle. A little old, a little modern. This can be done well within the $100-$200 range.

I don't know your nieces' and nephews' ages, but I know that my grandkids are all much more excited by the obsolete denominations in my collection than by any of the current ones (not just the current series, but any series of a current denomination.)

You can get a nice (AU to low MS) half cent, two cent, or a 3 cent piece in your price range. For only a little more you can pick up a strong VF to XF 20 center. May not have the financial appreciation possibilities of an ultra high grade modern, but IMO much more likely to spark an interest.
Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.
