image is terrible , these 38d's come nice and often with great color and tone. From what I can see it looks like a nice example.
Post a better image when you can.

MS65. A few hits, but beautiful toning.

  • Here are the better pics. The scratches are are on the holder and it was the coloring that caught my eye. I am thinking of sending it in to have it reholdered and was thinking of crossing it over. I feel it would most likely get a MS65 at our host but the chance that the eye appeal of this coin bringing it to a 66 is there. What are your thoughts?

Nice coin and nice color. I like it better with the white background of the NGC slab which enhances the visual effect of the color.

Not too shabby. You should edit your original post to remove the first pics you posted. image

If it crosses to PCGS, will the value go up enough to justify the expense of reslabbing it.

  • Well that is a good question and I do not know. Most coins in a PCGS holder get the premium money. The pics are not doing full justice to the toning on this coin, it has very nice eye appeal. Doing a search of completed auctions of the same grade and similar coloring has shown prices from $75.00 to $350.00 so i believe the value to be there. The current holder is NGC at an MS 66 and is a bit beat up with scratches. I almost want to crack it because I am having a problem imaging the mint mark and it looks to be a D/D. Any opinions or suggestions are of course welcome.

That coin will not grade MS66 at PCGS. There are too many large hits on the Indian's face which is a prime focal area. It is best to leave it alone. In MS 65 a 38-D/D does not carry a big premium and certainly not enough to cover shipping and insurance both ways plus the attribution fee or grading and attribution fees if you sent it to someone other than NGC since it is already in their holder.

Will not make 66.... nice Buff, just as it is ..... if you do not like the scratches, try Plast-X.... usually removes most scratches.. Cheers, RickO

I too recommend Meguire's PlastX that you can pick up from any auto parts store. I works great on the plastic slab scratches and it is only about $8 for a bottle of it.

    Nice colorful Buff!
I'm especially fond of Buffs displayed in a nice Dansco Album.
Not much sense slabbing most IMO unless they're super high end.
Congratulations on the new addition to the herd.
