A NewP Medal that I liked Pic of sig added

I took the pic with the light set in a way to make it look like the sun was shining down out of a slightly cloudy misty sky. My tastes are varied and that is how I like it as variety is the spice of life as they say.

  • Hey there image

The chances of me making out the words on the edge are zero - what does it say?
Do you know what this medal is, because I do not. Is this a cast or struck item?
From what I have seen the design running right to the edge is unusual.

    Best wishes,
    Eric

  • From what I can tell so far the guy who made this is from Denmark.
Born July 14, 1879 , he had an early start if we are to believe his words : "In five years , I was already budding sculptor ! I modelais God knows how ! Despite these provisions of my young age , my father wanted me to go to the Academy of Saint -Josse it, to make ornaments . I entered ... and after a month I was doing sculpture! Then I went to the Academy of Brussels on the advice of master Dillens . That was in 1900. The following year , I was received at the Brussels Motor Show . '(In the interview last time Aug. 2, 1927 ) He was a pupil of Rousseau and Victor Julien Dillens , but he also studied by himself and other great masters , he explained , "But when you leave the Academy , what do we know ? At most spelling ! Must ... learn the trade. The study of ancient and modern is needed by itself . I am devoted to their study. I especially liked Carpeaux , the best sculptors . I spent hours, weeks , months at the Louvre, to the extent that the guardians appointed me them the pretty name of Le Freak . Gradually, I became a conviction , I worked . Eugene Bremaecker visit fairs and exhibitions, knows the works of his contemporaries as Jef Shreds . It thus bridges the gap between two periods over the ditch of the Great War .

Besides his artistic activity , it should be noted in this section on his youth he was interested in early photography. In barely a dozen years, he took pictures on the beach Heyst of King Leopold II, who spoke to him to encourage him in this way . He realized many pictures during the First World War. Good info. It seems like the medallist's full name is Eugène Jean De Bremaecker and he lived from 1879 to 1963.
  • the subject is HOTEL DE VILLE TOWN HALL BRUXELLES BELGIUM and is a gilded bronze.
The oldest part of the present Town Hall is its east wing (to the left, when facing the front). This wing, together with a small belfry, was built from 1402 to 1420 under direction of Jacob van Thienen, and future additions were not originally foreseen. However, the admission of the craft guilds into the traditionally patrician city government probably spurred interest in expanding the building. A second, shorter wing was completed within five years of Charles the Bold laying its first stone in 1444. The right wing was built by Guillaume (Willem) de Voghel who in 1452 also built the Magna Aula.

The 96 metre (310 ft) high tower in Brabantine Gothic style emerged from the plans of Jan van Ruysbroek, the court architect of Philip the Good. By 1455 this tower had replaced the older belfry. Above the roof of the Town Hall, the square tower body narrows to a lavishly pinnacled octagonal openwork. Atop the spire stands a 5-metre-high gilt metal statue of the archangel Michael, patron saint of Brussels, slaying a dragon or devil. The tower, its front archway and the main building facade are conspicuously off-centre relative to one another. According to legend, the architect upon discovering this "error" leapt to his death from the tower. More likely, the asymmetry of the Town Hall was an accepted consequence of the scattered construction history and space constraints.

The facade is decorated with numerous statues representing nobles, saints, and allegorical figures. The present sculptures are reproductions; the older ones are in the city museum in the "King's House" across the Grand Place.

After the bombardment of Brussels in 1695 by a French army under the Duke of Villeroi, the resulting fire completely gutted the Town Hall, destroying the archives and the art collections. The interior was soon rebuilt, and the addition of two rear wings transformed the L-shaped building into its present configuration: a quadrilateral with an inner courtyard completed by Corneille Van Nerven in 1712. The Gothic interior was revised by Victor Jamar in 1868 in the style of his mentor Viollet-le-Duc. The halls have been replenished with tapestries, paintings, and sculptures, largely representing subjects of importance in local and regional history.

The Town Hall accommodated not only the municipal authorities of the city, but until 1795 also the States of Brabant. In 1830, a provisional government assembled here during the attempt othe Third French Revolutionn which provoked the separation of the Southern Netherlands from the Northern Netherlands. resulting in the formation of Belgium as is known presently.
