I've been away from numismatics for a few months now, but I'm actively collecting again since the purchase of this beauty a few days ago. Its a PCGS 1881 PF65RB CAC. Let me know what you think. Thanks

edited: also, I'm curious to hear anyone's price estimate for this coin. I'm always hesitant to purchase coins from Heritage, but I feel as though I did well with this particular coin.

Beautiful looking Proof! That stain could have been from the original wrapper proof Indians came in... Perhaps crumpled up a bit touching the coins surface... If anything for me it`s not distracting at all and in fact adds character... Again beautiful coin!!!!

I wish people would hate IHC proofs....I don't want to keep paying more and more for them with the competition image

Price estimate? Hard to say. It's a 65and toned and it's CAC'ed AND it's PCGS. All 3 of those bump the price. I know what I would/wouldn't pay, and my guess is that this was more than that amount.

I am going to guess somewhere around the $800 range. Should have been around $400-$500, but the toning likely bumped it and then any buyer's premium, etc, would bump it again.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Great piece, glad you are back collecting!

  • Very nice coin bt the strip on the face keeps pulling my eye.
  • I would bet money that the strip is more noticeable in these photos than it is in hand. I think it's a lovely piece.
Let's try not to get upset.

Awesome strike on that IHC.... the mark is -IMO- a handling aberration ....would not take much on that surface. Cheers, RickO

Stain? Geez, relax- it's just a lighter streak in the toning. These often form due to an impurity in the planchet, and grade will not generally be affected. Looks PR66 to me, and it has great eye appeal.

I like it, and if it were mine, I'd call it my warpaint proof Indian, as I kinda like the streak
