Forgot about this one 1943 Lincoln.. Opinions?

There was another thread earlier regarding a 43 Lincoln. I found the one I knew about and put a couple pics up and when I was putting it all away I found this one. It was given to me as just a little "thanks for buying my stuff" token from a seller on Ebay. (maybe it's a fake) What are some opinions on this? The surfaces are highly reflective but it doesn't look like it's been polished. Note the reflection of the reeded edge of the merc and the pencil tip. The date and mm have some shadowing (if that's what it's called) that almost looks like doubling but I'm not making that call.

It looks like one of the 'reprocessed' ones- many were replated to give them a better appearance... way to shiny to not have been messed with.

Plated. I have one too. Found it in a collection I bought. Startled me at first, it looked so good. But not under magnification.

One of the "processed" (plated) coins. I personally knew the dealer that did plating of 1943 steel cents. (Mike Gerlach--who passed away in 1997).

Okay, the Lincoln is nothing special. The Mercury dime looks pretty special though, that's a major strike rarity with fully split bands. Show us some more of that coin!
  • So maybe this will make up for the epic fail on the Lincoln? image What's the special rarity about it?

I thought your original post was utilizing a 1945 Mercury, not a 1943, so again, unfortunately, nothing special. Damn.

I have to agree with the others, definitely reprocessed. The shine and the bubbly appearance of the skin is a dead giveaway.
  • where did the patina 1945 go and what camera set up are you using?
  • Well 66, I think I'm going to have to let you down yet again. The toned 45 has almost no bands but here ya go. Along with a couple other 45's I have within reach. If ya don't like them, well, I'll make sure to buy a 45 FSB just for you. image Oh, and on the 45 d there is some doubling on the 4 and 5 but I'm sure it's mechanical so yet again, I let you down. What a night.

  • Oh, almost forgot lostincoins, it's just a Nikon L820. Nothing fancy by any means. I'm teetering on the fence for one of the setups that coinzip is selling.

Many 1943 steel cents were reprocessed privately back in the 1960's. It appears you have one of them.
    All glory is fleeting.
  • Well with all that said about that BEAUTIFUL and LUSTUROUS GEM of a coin, I will take the first offer of $0.50!! With FREE SHIPPING!! image

That is strike doubling, AKA mechanical or 'shelf' doubling.
