Had the look I wanted plus it's in a Fatty. Gonna attempt to rid the slab of scratches with PlastiX, anyone have success using this stuff?

Under magnification, the MM looks to have suffered PM damage, at least IMO. What do you think?

  • There is a nice amount of frost of the rev, on the MM etc. Looks as if the Rev just lacks depth to mirrors and or has tone obscuring the surfaces. It is fortunate the print aligns with the striations/die polish.

    Nice coin and tone.

Edit to add: Agree re hard to polish that slab.

The new NGC holders are hard to polish but an old fatty like that should clean up great.

I like it. Got a full slab pic, too?...since there are many interesting fatty varieties out there.

Not really an interesting variety Slammer, don't know off hand which one this is. The PL designation is a stretch IMO. The reverse is semi PL and the obverse has good mirrors. The 78S is known for it's PL/DMPL obverse and not so PL reverse. Find a 78S in full B&W 65DMPL, name your price, to a certain extent, not a common piece in gem DMPL. Maybe the reverse dies were prepared in a different manner, don't know.

Cool, thanks. I agree with you that the 78-S is often found with a more PL obverse.

I'll have to pay more attention to the NGC slab type. I never have much success polishing them. Tried Novus, PlastX and SlabRenew. Perry likes Brasso. I'll have to try it.

Yep...the S looks whacked..... too much 'stuff' on it for me, however, if it is what you are looking for, than it is great.... Cheers, RickO
