Not sure if that is what I was referring to in the OP...unless the PO-1 sells for more than the XF-40 (or even the AG-03). I doubt that it does.
There is no AG-03 for comparisons either in the current eBay listings or recently sold, but my point was that the PO-01 at $2401.07 is being listed for almost 300$ more than an FR02 ($2,133.69) which has PCGS Price Guide Value pegged at $2,000.
And also pretty close to the price of the AG3 CAC sold in Sep-2015 for 2703$ and getting close to the AG3 sold by David Lawrence in Oct-2021for $3,125. Just saying.

Edited to add more details.
If it were me, and I needed it to complete an album or set and gun-to-my-head, I had to pick one of the two, I would take the Fr-2 over the Po-1, every single time. Not sure that this one-off example proves or disproves anything, though. Plus, anyone can list anything at any price, but it does not set the market value.

Well, there are 41 watchers for the FR-02 and 16 watchers for the PO-01. Pretty sure that Apmex is going to sell them for the prices they have listed them for.
Aesthetics and eye appeal always win out long term
... along with rarity and perceived value. If good looks ruled all, then e.g. ASE would drive the collectible coin market, and be more sought after then key-date Barber coins.

By number of collectors, ASEs are likely much more sought after. Just look at the number of registry sets. I’d also say they are driving the collectibles market more than key date Barbers for many dealers, perhaps not any individual dealer or collector but overall.

By number of collectors, modern circulated quarters are likely way more popular than ASE. And those don't have particularly great aesthetics and eye appeal. 😉

Do people collect lowball type? I have a Peace dollar that would probably go 01 but the date is long gone....
of course, I'd need to take a closer look at it to make sure it wasn't messed with, i.e., the wear is likely from being a legit pocket piece and not 'manufactured' wear.

While starting to put my set together in albums (at first in Whitmean & thereafter Dansco), it was with whatever could be afforded. When it came to the keys, it was absolute lowball ones since budget was tight and my OCD in having to complete the sets made me want them ASAP resulting in my getting grades PO-01, AG3, G4 etc. for 1916 SLQ, 1916-D Mercury, 1893-S Morgan, 1932 Washington quarters and so on.
This prompted me to look at that registry segment and found out the hard way that there were too many players in there plus the coins were very iffy to look at and didn't want to go that route.
The thought process slowly started to change after seeing some very beautiful coins that could have been had for a tad bit more with some patience since there is always another person gunning for the same willing to pay slightly more.
Now am caught in between having mostly raw with graded keys and hence took a small break to restructure my collecting methods, but yeah, am surely out of the lowball registry category for now.

Here's one without the date, though if you don't have a date, you need some other identifying diagnostic to get it graded, as the relief is here.
Thanks @Zoins I think the wear on my coin is similar to yours. Will try to post a pic tomorrow. Does anyone know how an obvious Peace $ with no date and no obvious diagnostic like HR would be treated, e.g., N.D. Peace $1 P01 ???
Tried tumbling some coins once. Added some cloth to simulate a pocket environment - they all came out looking polished.
Too bad you can't add BS coins - it would be appropriate! (Basal State).

Incidentally the PO-01 is also listed at a higher price than NGC graded Good-4. CAC that sold for 2350$ in Feb 2018.

Yep. Not low enough.
Paper money eventually returns to its intrinsic value. Zero. Voltaire. Ebay coinbowlllc
Actually, I saw this label on eBay a couple weeks ago and saved a picture. I hadn't seen this before.

It may be trendy now but the reason it started for me (before the Set Registry) is because they can have very good aesthetics and eye appeal

I respect your knowledge and opinion. Different perspective is what I like about this board.
Indeed. One of the great things about this forum is the wide variety of coins that can be enjoyed here.
Want to see something crazy.
I paid MS66+ money for this FR02 in the Pogue auction. Lots of high prices in the Pogue low ball auction.
Now I'm drooling over the following.
As crazy as the MS66+ price is for the above, my wallet is much happier with that than the MS68 price for this
