Digital Microscope

I am looking at digital microscopes for viewing coins in a larger scale with the aid of a screen and simple ability to save an image for inventory purpose.

One is the Celestron for $65.00 and another has 8 led lights. Any thoughts or experience with these items?

Make sure what ever brand of Microscope you buy will work with the next operating system, or your going to be buying a new scope the next time microsoft or MAC changes their OS.

I purchased the Celestron Pro around August, works pretty well, you do have to play with lighting.
I seem to have the best results using natural light.
Had to go to their web page to obtain the proper drivers.

Only complaint is the focus resolution.
The vertical post that the scope moves up and down on was too short, so a simple fix is to use a 1 foot long piece of 12 in copper water line.
Easy to operate and the software makes it easy to save images.
I used pricegrabber.com to find the lowest price.

I purchased the Dino Lite AM411T a couple of months ago, and I am very happy with its performance.

I was searching thru hundreds of wheaties just last night, and it really helps to have a digital microscope. Much easier on the eyes and neck.

If you are looking for high resolution photos, this model (only 1.2MP, but pictures are decent enough) isn't for you, but if ur a variety searcher like me, it's a great investment.

I saw CoinZip demo the Dino-Lite at last month's PAN show and I don't see how it could be any easier. He actually ID'd a Morgan overdate just by putting the device on the case and capturing the image through the case glass and through the holder, perfectly focused and displayed on his laptop screen.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

My Dino-Lite was a waste of money. It won't work with Windows 7 and is useless. The technical support is nonexistent. Once you have paid for it you are on your own.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I cannot vouch for Windows 7, but my Dino-lite works like a charm w/ Windows Vista ;-)

The tech support and local support is why I bought the Dino-Lite. The tech support number is toll free 888-668-2442 and it is operational during PST. You can reach Alan at CoinZip also. Somehow, I forgot how to take pictures and had to call Alan. He walked me through it with no problem.

I bought a Chinese knockoff from Amazon, it had no tech support, and the disk had a virus which crashed my computer. "Once you have paid for it you are on your own." That was true with the knockoff, but not with the Dino-Lite. I am sure you can get your Dino-Lite going if you call tech support or Alan.
