Anyone here subscribe to Numismatic News?

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this publication.

I recently received an offer for a steep discount off the list subscription price, and I feel a bit outside the loop after giving up on my Coin World subscription.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts…

    Just recently renewed my subscription.

It's one of the top trade journals / hobbyist periodicals. I recommend subscribing
    to both NN and CW.

Coin World had always been significantly better.

These days they are both trash. I don't even take the free issues at shows anymore.

I get Coin World and Numismatic News and enjoy them both. As a subscription, each issue is relatively inexpensive and I consider them to be cheap entertainment. Have you seen what movie tickets cost these days, for example?

I've been subscribing to CW for close to 50 years and have always found far superior to NN. I've tried NN a few times and found their coverage falls into three categories - ANA mouthpiece, mint reports, and Mishler travelogues and therefore regard it as a waste of time.

I do not subscribe to it, but I list my coin shows there. For me, the Numismatic News show directory and ads far outweigh CW.

I ordered it again as I could not resist the 26 issues for $15 price tag.

It is fun to look at even if it arrives a week late.

The can not ship it for 26 weeks for that kind of money.

Great print magazine. A fairly cheap investment that is well worth it.

I've tried it but just thought CW news coverage was better. I do like the RW Julian articles which appear occasionally in NN.

NN is far from relevant and long ago became of little to no value in my view. I dropped my subscription eons ago when they allowed one person to submit 30 or 40 of the free classified ads each week sometimes more. There is very little actual real content , mostly just large dealers ads and fluff , very ineffectual out of touch management to let the paper fall to the levels it has. I would not want the paper free as it is just not worthy of reading in my view there is so much better content free.
  • There is good and bad, but I enjoy reading it, and compared to the cost of other stuff, it is not that expensive.

I like the monthly coin prices pull out. I really used to enjoy NN but they can't get it delivered to me, why I have no idea. So, I just don't bother with it anymore.
It was once a good publication, but that was many years ago.

I dropped all print magazines and now, just rely on
    Coin World on Line ...

It's amazing how quickly all the periodicals accumulate
and how infrequently I actually looked at much more
    than the cover stories.

Having a membership here ( as well as a couple of other
sites ) I get all the coin news I could possibly digest.

Night and day difference between CW and NN. I'm a CW subscriber for 20+ years and have enjoyed it. NN could be free and I'd still have no use for it. image

The printed word is fine. But when it can lead thieves to your door step, that's another matter. A PO Box is a help, but not fool-proof.

I have received NN for 7 years or so.

For the price it is good entertainment.

There is stuff I will just skip but it is a good read to me.

I subscribe to CW, and let my subscription to NN lapse about 7 years ago. When I can finish reading a periodical, upon retrieving it from my mailbox, before I sit down to go through it, it is time to say goodbye.

I kept my CW subscription to keep up with current hobby news. I receive 8 journals published by hobby-related organizations (see below), and rely on these for more in-depth articles about numismatic topics of interest to me.

  • I still think that it has value for the price, which is not a lot. I have used the free coin ad feature a number of times. Not great response, but a little - or maybe it was my ad. I also enjoy the letters. All in all, I consider dropping every year, but keep signing up.

The articles written by F. Michael Fazzari concerning the grading and authentication of coins is alone worth the cost of the subscription.
