If money was a non issue.............

morgansforevermorgansforever Posts: 8,484 ✭✭✭✭✭
I would purchase one of these rolls, open just to quench my curiosity and post the results with a video. They've been discussed here for years and still these ultra rare rolls are available all the time. Does anybody here know someone that has purchased one of these?

I want to emphasize that this is NOT a Carson City Mint roll.

  • My first thought was...WOW!!!

Then I searched and found this....

$55 shipping? As if the auction itself is not rip off enough, he wants to stick it to you on the shipping as well!

Has there ever been an instance where money was actually no object?

I'm surprised the sellers of these haven't kicked it up a notch, fill the roll with 63ish Morgans, with EOR toners on each end. This would legitimize the scam and word would spread that there are UNC. Morgans in these rolls. Maybe toss in a solid 83CC in 64 to spice it up.

I have an old bank roll of early sixties dimes (all same date and old wrapper)

Who cares if it's totally original in this discussion as the end rolls toned on one side and even a few near the end had rim toning.

White coins in an original old paper roll? Not!

I agree. The fact that these rolls are all white is 100% proof positive these arent original. Here is what old rolled silver looks like.

The fact that you would say what you said (about wanting to rip one open) is exactly what sellers like this are relying on. It is a scam that has been around for a very long time. The story I have never seen is that someone actually received a whole roll of CC DOllars, OR THAT ANY OTHER COIN in the roll was anything but a common date in a common grade.

    The ad description says:

This is from a bank liquidation when the bank went under (Carson City State Bank) and all the remaining assets were put into a trust.

What the heck does that even mean?

It's been fairly well established that this bank never existed. That fact alone is a huge red flag. The fonts used on the wrapper are modern
(I've personally had them reviewed by one of the best typographers in the United States) . . . there's a small full-color emblem on the wrapper,
which a bank wouldnever have used (why go to the expense of four-color printing for a utilitarian object like a coin wrapper?)
    . . . etc.

  • Someone posted a neat thread a while back about patents for rolling machines. I recall about 1901 or so as one of the application dates, and a drawing of a Indian penny with a roll rendered with reverse perspective.

For most of us probably not, but no doubt there are a few [our Government included] who can throw as much money at/into something as it takes. Doesn't always mean they will get it tho. Thankfully the Gates and Buffett style boys don't have the hots for coins.

It's not the $$$ it's buying the right thing with the $$ any one can find or save up the $$ to buy a roll like this but it's not a good roll. You can see it in the Photo just look at the one end's of the roll it was opened one side is tight and the other side does not look right, That's what keeps me from buying it and this guy knows whats in it. image

    Hoard the keys.
  • Bottom line is these rolls are 100% made up. How in the world can a 100+ year old roll contain white end coins? I feel bad for those that are spending thousands for these rolls image.

    How so?

If it were a genuine $10 roll, the text would be centered instead of cut off on the left.
