I am really digging these Geiger Silver Bars. The 250g and 10oz are the same size, but, the 10oz is thicker.

I really love the size and feel of the kilo bar and will probably be getting more of these instead of the Sunshine like I had planned.

    Nice stuff guys.

I picked up a little baby 100g Geiger Bar just to see if I liked the quality and I like it very much so I might be lining up right behind you Zubie to get some more of these bars, that 10oz is looking pretty sweet!

Also picked up a couple of Pamp Suisse Bars, a 5oz. & 250g. I scooped up a 10oz as well just today at the low but obviously don't have it yet.

Those Geiger bars are really cool, and the PAMP silver bar is amazing.

Here's a new metalporn wallpaper with a little piece I just picked up from my dealer:

The JM bar below (front and back illustrated) was a pickup at Baltimore yesterday. I had never seen one before.

The Engelhard Prospector was a pickup through Gainesville Coin.

Is Geiger an established refiner or yet another fly by night one capatilizing on the value? This is the first I'm hearing of them and seeing them.

Not sure to tell the truth, but I did find my recent purchase of a small 100 gram bar to be quite nice overall.

Apparently they are a Swiss company that's been around since 1720 so it's safe to say they're not a fly by night company. Also, APMEX makes a market in this brand of bars. Looks like they make an attractive product but I wouldn't buy it unless the price is competitive with American silver bars like OPM, NTR, Sunshine, Engelhard, J-M, Silvertowne, etc. Not sure if their bars being in metric units is desirable or undesirable.

Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

ok, thanks for the heads up, just wondering why I have never heard of them til now when they've been around that long. The metric thing is a huge turn off for me personally. I wouldn't buy even at Spot, might be cool to own if you intend to keep it "til the grave"...but too hard to sell when that time comes, just my .02.

I understand your dislike of metric bars but I doubt they would be hard to sell. I've bought several 1 Kg bars by Engelhard, J-M, and some European refineries from the BST here. All you have to do is remember that 1 Kg = 32.15 Troy ounces.

I don't see bar number anywhere on the bar. Is this rather stock/certified number? It's a nice bar nonetheless.

GEIGER Edelmetalle is one of the leading trading houses in the sector in Germany. We offer you competent advice, independent of any bank, on precious metals as capital investment - for personal financial security and asset protection. We put our knowledge and experience at your service, when you invest in physical precious metals.
The longest established silver trading house in Germany

The registered office of GEIGER Edelmetalle is the Baroque castle, Schloss Güldengossa near Leipzig. Here we are continuing a tradition, which began in 1218 in Leipzig. In that year tradespeople in the trade fair city founded the first silver trade in Germany and took the trade all over the world, a trade which has flourished right up until the last century. Driven by entrepreneurial spirit and high innovative energy, the GEIGER Group of companies has revived the workmanship and trade in precious metals and carries forward this heritage.

    About-GEIGER

I guess the metric thing is just a matter of personal choice and perhaps it's true there may be some advantage, especially when selling privately offline, to have a product that is denominated in units that people are somewhat more familiar with.

Honestly though I would not be too surprised if most folks off the street, outside of those who stack bullion or collect coins, even understand the difference between an avoirdupois ounce and a troy ounce, I bet many would say an ounce is an ounce. If your dealing with a person who if familiar with bullion and/or coins then they will more than likely not get too hung up on the units of grams or kilograms, JMHO.

I have a number of Pamp and Credit Suisse gold bars that I doubt I'd have any trouble unloading. I believe the same would hold true for the 250g Pamp silver bar shown above.
    100g = 3.214oz, 250g = 8.037oz, 500g = 16.074oz, 1000g (1kg) = 32.149

Now the issue of familiarity with regards to Geiger as a brand, particularly as a respected or trusted brand, that is a whole different animal. That is why I only purchased one small bar, baby steps when trying out new things. From the web site it looks to me like the name Güldengossa might have some history behind it but perhaps the name was dormant for a period of time and Geiger has obtained the rights, but I'm far from certain about that. The history and legacy of the company from the web site just appears to be lacking a bit for a place that has been in operation for such a length of time.
