Neat article on baseball coin trial pieces in Coin World Online

Neat article showing how the Mint tested possible different curvatures using fantasy dies that had a pool player on one side and an "8 Ball" on the baseball side!

I have said this before and I will say it again. I love these!

And after seeing the pics of the test and production pieces, I think these are going to be a HIT! (Pun intended image )

Yes there a lot shown, the dies and the strikes themselves. If nothing else I think the article gives a good representation of the development process used inside the mint.

Does anyone know if the "8-ball" trial pieces have a denomination on them? With 10,000+ minted and no denomination, hopefully the mint would think to offer these as a product similar to the coin and die sets they have offered previously.

No link was posted. You have to subscribe to Coin World Online to read the article, or buy a hard copy of the magazine at a coin shop. That's how they pay their salaries.

I don't think the gold coins will last a week before they're a sellout. Put me in that line. Such a clean, simple and appealing design. I bet they're going to look great.

  • I'm balking.

I think the mint is swinging for the fences on this one. I wonder if there will be many errors ... I might try to get my mitts on one.

This coin really throws a curveball to collectors.
Let's try not to get upset.
