I don't care for either one and would not be an owner of them. I would ship them off to Great Collections and have Great Collections send them to the sticker factory for me just in case so as to potentially maximize the sale price. The sticker factory is cheap. Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

I like them both just as they are. If you try to have them crossed, I would not crack them. Those are pretty lofty grades and the chances of them staying the same are slim in my opinion.
for me, it's hard to capture the color at the top of the coin. but, it's a dark teal. other than the toning, i don't see any problems. it looks perfect to me. maybe the strike is a little weak? is the toning the only reason nobody likes it?
this is just a camera phone pic and i am not a very good photographer. :-)
<< <i>Just for the sake of a rebuttal, you don't know for sure if the toning on the Wash was caused by the old NGC holder, that would be impossible to know unless you had the coin holdered and saw it tone in the holder thereafter, you are making as assumption, just sayin. >>
Right, just like I assume that a colorful 58-D silver coin came out of a mint set even though I never saw it in there. The point being that certain materials are known to cause certain types of toning.

You can't take the chance on these going AT if you crack.

Not in relation to the value of those coins.
Personally, I might cross the Merc at any grade if there's more luster than shows in the photos.
I've never liked the type of toning exhibited by the Washie, which is caused by the old NGC plastic.
Lance.
i don't think the grades are lofty. the 1955 25C is a-mazing and i think the dime is fb. but, ignorance is bliss!

Plastic causes toning?
Yep.
EDIT: "Plastic" is a term that refers to a huge family of related chemical compounds. Some of them DO cause
toning on silver.
