Albemarle coin shop owner robbed, killed

Albemarle police are looking for the person who robbed and fatally shot an 81-year-old coin shop owner Thursday afternoon. Investigators say the suspect drove off in the victim’s pickup truck. Police identified the victim as Eldridge Roger Gibson, owner of B&G Coins on West Main Street near N.C. 73.

Surveillance video shows a person entering the store about 6 p.m., staying inside for about 20 minutes, and then driving off with the truck, according to police. Albemarle police were called to the store shortly after 6 p.m. and found a man, later identified as Gibson, lying on the floor with a gunshot wound. He was rushed to a Stanly County hospital but died of his injuries late Thursday night.

Police say the suspect drove off in a white 2010 Ford F-150 pickup truck with chrome wheels. The truck has N.C. license tags ZRT-3645. The suspect should be considered armed and dangerous, and police ask that anyone with information in the case contact them at 704-984-9500.

Sad news. Another brick and mortar shuts down thanks to a killing machine without regard for the target it hits at close range.

Wow, that shop is only about 40 miles from my home. I liked Roger - such a shame.

    Conrad,

Yeah, I used to stop in there when I worked the Palm Harbor Plant out in Albemarle. Also would see him at the Albemarle show he hosted twice a year. He was well liked by a bunch of folks

I hate that for him and his family, Luckily I survived when I got hit. Everyone including the cops told me that if they had got me back inside the store, I would not be here today. To this day, not sure why , but glad I fought them at the door, and got left outside the store on the side walk, I was paralyzed but could feel them walk back over top of me when they left, thankfully they didn't put a bullet in my head when they left in such a hurry .

Just earlier this week, at my old shop, while I was there , had some guys in a white low rider big rim Cadillac strolling thru the parking lot casing the joint, several times, but luckily I and several other customers where in an out of the store, so they left. One of the other customers had even notice them parked out behind the building . I told the new owners too keep a close eye-out, they were definitely up to no good.

Totally evil and a good argument for capital punishment.

In fact, if they cannot get the drugs for lethal injection they
should go back to hanging. In public.

    Pure evil.
May he rest in peace and my G-d bless his family.
I hope that the murderer is quickly apprehended and gets life w/o at minimum.
A scum bag held my folks up in their store in Balto City not far from the Balto Convention Center in 1982. Held a gun to the back of my Mom's head. My Mom tried to break away. He started to aim at my Dad. My Dad, who was on cruthces from a leg fracture, shot and killed him. Justice was served. I wish that more would end this way.

You have to admit that there is at least a place in a coin shop for a small firearms display in plain sight.
