Nervous about a card being delivered
![Guru](https://us.v-cdn.net/6027503/uploads/authoricons/ 2345.jpg)
I recently purchased a high dollar card, well, high dollar for me and have been waiting since Thursday for it to be delivered. On Thursday it said it was out for delivery, but it hasn't arrived yet. Today I looked and it said, "Delivery status not updated". Should I be worried? They guy sent it first class, which I'm not sure why he did that for the price I paid for the card.
Thanks!

Sometimes they miss their delivery date usps and will not update. But, I would for sure call your local post office or head over there with the tracking number. The fresher the issue is in the mind of the delivery driver the better chance if anything happened to it , for you to recover your item.
I had an example like this in the past and it got sent to another cities sort facility and then worked its way back to me. It took closer to two weeks to get the item. It was just a simple mistake on the mail carriers part is what I was told. I think they simply forgot to put it in my box and items that are not delivered get taken back to the post office and sent else where.
First class is an excellent way to ship cards. In most circumstances it takes less then three days to arrive. I can certainly understand your frustration but I would stay positive as there is a good chance it will make it to you. Good luck.

What your messages mean on the tracking updates are that the shipping label was printed on Thursday, probably to make sure to meet power seller / top rated seller 1-day shipping requirements, but that the seller did not actually get around to physically packaging the item up and putting it in the mail box yet. When that occurs, the carrier will scan it and new tracking info will automatically be updated into the USPS system.

Are you sure about this? I have an item arriving today that was done with online shipping and it just assigns a tracking number and there are no updates until it has been dropped off at the post office and then in route.

If there were any updates at all besides the initial notification / logging of the tracking number, then the carrier issues detailed in other posts are correct. The situation I described would only apply if there was just an initial logging of the number and nothing after that. Out for delivery is a good sign that everything should eventually be ok.
<< <i>Didn't come...so I guess I gotta go to the Post Office...Horrayy because I love doing that.
Don't waste your time on the 1-800 number they will only tell you what you already know. If you can find the number to the local post office sometimes they will answer and try and help.

Not when it went out for delivery four days ago. "Out for Delivery" means that it left your post office on a truck headed to your house. If that happens and it isn't in your mailbox that day, then it got lost somewhere. If it just ended up on the wrong truck they would fix it the next day. After your local post office had it and it isn't to you in four days, and isn't scanned as heading back to where it came from, it's time to worry.

"out for delivery" means that the clerk sorted all the packages and scanned a bar code saying that they had been distributed to the carriers. It's an automated update and doesn't mean anything.
With the status not updated, it usually means it was delivered and not scanned.
How high dollar was it? If it was insured for over $200 then it needed a signature.
Don't call the 800 number. File a complaint at the link below. A supervisor has to respond to this complaint and there is a record of the complaint.

what are you talking about ? first class is the same as priority for weight less than 1 lb

Had this happened to me several times as a seller. Luckily my buyers were honest. I got tired of postal carriers forgetting to scan packages.
This has now prompted me to start sticking "scan me" sticker labels all over my package in bright red colors. I have printed out hundreds of these
using return address label sheets. This definitely gets their attention. Haven't had an incident since.
There is still a very good chance that your card will eventually arrive.

?????????
Of course it means something. It means that the package is at your local post office and is set to be delivered. When it hasn't been delivered four days later, something is wrong.
<< <i>The seller needs to file the claim with usps. You just need to file a claim with paypal for non-receipt. >>
And I would do that sooner than later, even if you have time you can always cancel your claim if they find it. I would also keep the lines of communication open with the seller.

What post office do you use? If you ship a 1 oz letter via Priority Mail, it is $5 minimum.

Jim has been a great help on issues like these in the past, as well.

That's awesome, and I'm sure he's a good guy, but that doesn't mean that what he wrote is correct in the context of this discussion. As jimq112 even said himself, "Out for Delivery" at the very least means that someone in your local post office scanned that package. If it hasn't made it from the back of the post office onto a truck in four days, then something is wrong.
<< <i>The seller has asked me to wait, stating that he can't file a claim with the USPS until 30 days after he's shipped it. Is that true? >>
It is based on level of service. For first class mail, I believe that is correct. Info is on the usps site.
You have 45 days to file a claim with paypal but he really should not be requiring you to wait 30 days as even from that point he is not likely to get reimbursed by PO till weeks after that.

It's just so incredibly frustrating when you look forward to getting something like this card and then find out you may never see it again.
I want to know how something like that can disappear? And seriously, where do things like that go?
<< <i>It was coming from Virginia to Indiana. The local PO said that they did scan it in. It's here. It's a matter of finding it. >>
I've had that happen also. Give it a couple more days before you panic. It will get there.
Based on what you've learned thus far, the answer is likely in his trunk or stashed somewhere in his basement.
This package is not going to turn up if he quit his job and didn't bother delivering the mail as a result. Hopefully, a postal inspector will get involved, esp if enough people complain about missing mail as well.

I asked her where it could possibly be if it was scanned by a clerk there at the local post office, which they confirmed it was. I asked if it could be in the truck? The supervisor said no, because she inspects every truck every night. I asked if it could still be there at the local post office? She said they have looked everywhere including the "notice" area. So then I asked, well, if it's not in the truck since you inspected it and it's not at the post office, that leaves really only three explanations.
1. The delivery person failed to scan it and delivered it to the wrong house.
2. The delivery person failed to scan it and took it for themselves.
3. The delivery person failed to scan it and threw it out the window or in the trash.
4. Someone is not telling me the truth.
Of course I got a million excuses and a dozen apologies, in which my response was you don't have to apologize and you don't need to give me excuses....just tell me the truth. She stopped short of saying, we lost it. So I have to call back at 2 and ask for "Miss Lane" ( I was advised to call her that) and see if she will call the delivery person at home to figure out what's going on.
I've given up on the idea that I'll ever see this card.
The seller has told me that they purchased insurance and has asked me to wait 30 days since they can't file it till after then. The supervisor told me that they sent the package first class with no insurance (why would you not insure an expensive card is beyond me) and that's part of the problem too. That there's not a lot more they can do. So, now the seller has lied to me.
I just think it would be easier if everyone would just tell the truth and we could all move on. I get so frustrated with the lack of integrity in people these days. I'm not perfect, but I try to be a person of integrity...doing what you say you will do, when you say you will do it, in the manner in which it was supposed to be done.

No, it means nothing. The "arrival at unit" scan tells you it's at the post office. Nothing at all is added by an "out for delivery" update. When it hasn't been delivered four days later, it means that either
1- it was somehow lost in supposedly empty postal equipment, or
2- it was undeliverable and a clerk missed a scan, or
3- it was misdelivered and also not scanned (not likely), or
4- it was lost in the carrier's truck. This happens sometimes to small bubble mailer type packages. They slide between the mail tray and seat or under the seat, or
5- somebody stole it.
The supervisor got an email on Friday morning advising him/her that there was a failed scan event on that parcel. Some scan fail notices come with destination address but not all do. If this one did, chances are that the carrier already checked his vehicle.
if it hasn't turned up as of Tuesday from Thursday chances aren't very good that it will show up.
I'm guessing I should talk with the postal inspector and see what they say, but I think you're right. The likelihood of me getting this card is slim to none at this point. I'm thinking I should just file with PayPal and be done with it all. Such a headache.
This actually made me laugh a bit. For some reason, an image popped up of a driver smoking a cigarette and jamming
to some tunes. He picks up your package and looks at it and then all of a sudden "brick house" comes on and he just
tosses it out the window.
Yea, just file with paypal and get it over with.
Sounds like they are having staff problems there as they can't get straight who is delivering what. It was obvious to me that she has had several problems from people in our neighborhood either not getting their mail or complaining.
Regardless, the seller said he purchased insurance but they are saying he didn't and should have, for an item for that amount, gotten insurance and asked for a signature.
Hopefully PayPal can resolve this for me. Ugh.
