Both Wax Boxes are priced at $300.
Which one would you rather have? '89 Score Football or '78/'79 Basketball.

<< <i>Tough call as the 89 Score is stocked with great rookies and is extremely popular. However, the supply should be enough to keep with demand. The basketball on the other hand is probably much more limited and with the surge of interest in unopened and in particular vintage unopened, I'd rather have the Basketball for the long run. >>

I love the Score set and it is loaded, but as already stated the print run
difference between the two pushes me to the Basketball.

1989 Score football is glorified junk wax.
<< <i>Definitely the 1978 Topps basketball. 1970's basketball is undervalued.

89 Score FB kind of reminds me of 88/89 Fleer basketball. Seems overvalued at the moment for what you get.
But I'm skeptical on 70s BK as well. Who is the potential buyer down the road? Is there a reason the nostalgia for this set will go up in the future? I feel like the '70s crowd is already back in the game and I don't think the generation getting back into the hobby now will every care about late 70s BK boxes. I have access to a 78/79 wax box fairly cheap and I can't seem to pull the trigger.
Thanks,

1985 Topps Football (starting in psa 8) - #9 - started 05/21/06
Since it looks like Vintage BK won in a TKO over Modern Football I'd like to introduce another challenge. I hope the OP doesn't mind if I jump on his thread with my own debate topic:
1983 Topps Baseball from sealed case($200) or 1983 Topps Baseball Michigan Wrap from sealed case($210)
vs.
1978/79 Topps Basketball ($385) or 79/80 Basketball ($300)
You can pick one, two or just rank. Yes, price should be factored into the decision.
My ranking: 1. Michigan 2. 78 BK 3. 83 BB 4. 79 BK

I agree with this.
It's really pretty amazing/insane that 89 Score prices have remained high over the years. Consider that those boxes almost always yield PSA 9+ quality cards. The PSA 10 populations for the big cards are extremely high. The supply of unopened is plentiful. The demand is moderate. Not to mention the biggest RCs (Aikman and Sanders) are awful looking headshot cards. All of this and the boxes are STILL $300-$425 depending on your source.
These boxes should have dropped 60% a long time ago.
- Considering the amount of younger buyers VERY heavy into modern basketball cards - ever check out the Blowout cards bkball forum?
I think at SOME POINT (could still be years...) those buyers will migrate down into the affordable 70s and realize how cool it'll be to pull potential 10s of Kareem, Dr. J. Walton, Moses, rookies of Bernard King, and DJ etc.

I agree about 1970's Basketball but you should also consider 81 Topps Basketball, the second year cards of Magic and Bird are also undervalued and it also has the McHale rookie.
Successful card BST transactions with cbcnow, brogurt, gstarling, Bravesfan 007, and rajah 424.
