use ebay shipping. signature required . Pack non obvious don't get an insurance stamp at a post office counter on the package. Use flat rate box with packing for heavy items.
<< <i>Worth $500. Whats the best and safest way for me to send? with Signature or delivery confirmation? Thanks so much Kip >>
Generate your shipping label thru eBay. Signature confirmation will be automatically applied as part of the cost of postage. Insurance....it's up to you, but remember, USPS Insurance coverage is not available for bullion products.
"Bongo drive 1984 Lincoln that looks like old coin dug from ground."
One other tip I've adopted over the years. Sometimes even with signature confirmation the mail person still just throws it on the porch, without getting the signature. Most buyers I believe are honest. However, some including ones that sell and proclaim they have ties to Jesus will cheat and lie if given the opportunity.
I started printing in Big Red Letters "SIGNATURE REQUIRED" and I tape 3 or 4 of these self printed tags around the label itself.
I don't know if it helps or not but if maybe your mail person has bad eye sight it may make a difference.
Paypal requires items over $250 to have signature confirmation in order to be eligible for seller protection. Do not ship until paypal details page says "OK to ship." Sometimes there are delays in the payment posting to your paypal account and the "OK to ship" indicates when things have cleared.
I prefer printing my shipping labels from paypal. "Print shipping label" is found at bottom of details page. So is "print packing slip." In paypal shipping you have a choice of USPS insurance or Ebay's Shipcover insurance. I always choose USPS insurance (sometimes cheaper) and USPS gives up to $50 free insurance if mailing priority. Paypal will automatically deduct the postage cost from your paypal balance and will automatically post the tracking number in both paypal and ebay. I would recommend once postage has been deducted from your paypal balance you transfer (at no charge) the remaining balance to your bank account. Make your ebay purchases though paypal with a credit card (that awards points) tied to your paypal account.
The safest way to mail a $500 item is registered mail, but I usually don't use registered unless item is $700 or above. Special packaging requirements for registered and you have to purchase the postage at the post office. Will run you around $20 on $500 insurance - more insurance, more postage cost. If I were shipping $500 I would do so in a small priority flat rate box and insure it for $500. I would elect not to show the postage amount on the label, it becomes an invitation to steal the shipment.

I like your idea...APMEX does that with their shipments.

You could also just start driving to coin to it's destination yourself!
Well, that would be ideal but after having several PCGS signature deliveries thrown on the porch wo signature and some jacknut holding a package hostage while threatening an item not received claim I figure it can't hurt, silly wabbit...
