Best Approach to selling my Wheaties, Buffalo's, and Roosie's?

It's time to exchange some of my stock for cash, as a new home is on the horizon...

A few years ago, I picked up a collection from a client which included tons of Wheaties, all of which were organized and separated by year, and includes nearly everything from 1909 through 1959. Tubes and Tubes, some rolls, and several partial tubes as well. Also have a number of flips here, along with flips of Roosies and Buff Nickels. I just have no idea what to do with 'em, short of the local coin shop which, I'm betting, wants little to do with all that copper.

Is it best to see these in lots, or a run of years? Individually would be a exercise in insanity, methinks, but while most are circulated coins, some are in EF condition.

I have Buff's and Jeffersons in folders, and most other stuff you'd consider a novice collector would have access to... I just don't know the best way to sell it.

Any suggestions?

How much work do you want to sink into the project? How much is your time worth? I would advise you to bring them to your local B&M.

On the B&M's do you find that they cherry pick only certain coins and reject others or do they usually make offers on the whole collection?

ship in flat rate boxes and sell em on the BST

BST them. You might net more than selling to a BM. However, like TomB said, how much time to you wish to spend? How much energy do you wish to devote?

Pick up a few flat rate boxes and sell them either here on the BST or on eBay. I doubt a B&M would offer top dollar for that kind of stuff and would only recommend it if you need money ASAP.

Bst or eBay. Take a picture showing everything and some to show samples of the coins included.

In EF, your Roosies aren't worth much more than melt, except perhaps the 49S. Id put them in folders and put them on ebay. You may get someone looking for a full set that would pay more.

To maximize your profit, devote time to putting the coins in attractive lots and work the BST or ebay....fast cash = local B&M....Cheers, RickO
  • You are not the only one looking for a home for this type of stuff. I have been wondering if it is possible to find YN buyers on ebay. If I knew it was someone starting out I would send them all sorts of freebies so they would keep buying my lots.

I think if the ANA or local coin clubs asked for donations of cheaper coins to give out to YN's they would get buckets of them.

Successful BST deals with mustangt and jesbroken. Now EVERYTHING is for sale.
