20 different T206 sets on the Registry consisting of 1 card each.

48 different PX7 sets on the Registry consisting of 1 disc each.

7 different M116 sets on the Registry consisting of 1 card each.

17 different T205 sets on the Registry consisting of 1 card each.

9 different T3 sets on the Registry consisting of 1 card each.

etc., etc., etc.

In my opinion, this person should be disqualified from the Registry contest, and all of these "sets" should be removed from the Registry.

Who cares. He is not getting any benefits from having that many sets. And its not hurting the rest of the collectors in those sets.

Maurice did this person win one of the prizes?

That contest was a joke. As of this morning:

    PSA Set Registry®
    97,171 Registered Sets

I don't think so. The guy that won the grand prize (1915 Cracker Jack Christy Mathewson PSA 8) posted here on the message board. His username is mdkuom.

    I care.

<< <i>He is not getting any benefits from having that many sets. >>

Of course he benefited. It gave him more chances of winning the Registry Contest. And it gave others with legitimate sets less chances of winning.

<< <i>And its not hurting the rest of the collectors in those sets. >>

He is cluttering up the Registry. Do you really think it is acceptable to create hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of Registry sets with 1 card in each in an attempt to win the Registry Contest?

Keep in mind we're not talking about someone that has a few cards from a whole bunch of sets and decides to put them on the Registry. We're talking about someone that has 50 cards from one set, and instead of creating a Registry set with the 50 cards, he decides to create 50 different sets with 1 card in each. And then repeats the process with many other sets.

It completely goes against the spirit of the Registry. It is disgraceful and it may even be illegal.

Maybe it is just that Spence recently retired over 3,000 sets to bring the total back down below the threshold? image

Can't disagree with that point. PSA should reach out and give him an opportunity to rectify. It's a fine line and he's technically not violating any specific rules BUT his intent is pretty clear.

If I recall the registrant was featured in an SMR article, and is a father/young son team. Perhaps the extreme effort is justified since the prize was intended for a young collector.

From what I can tell, 707 is the DOLLAR STORE compared to deans_cards. For what that guy charges, if I ever bought anything from him I would expect it to be delivered to me in a frickin' limo.

In his defense he wasn't the only person trying to game the system by listing a large number of near empty sets. You can read about it here. http://forums.collectors.com/messageview.cfm?catid=11&threadid=897777&STARTPAGE=1 Even the winner added an extra 50 sets until he got bored. One person said they registered 1000 sets. It was a great gesture by PSA, but horribly abused by many collectors. PSA should have held the contest in secret and awarded the prize when 100,000 was reached naturally.

Or at least a minimum number of cards per set, perhaps a percentage, in order to qualify.

Technically PSA is not at 100,000 sets sitting at 97,148. Do they ask for the card back? image

I am sure PSA put the qualifier in so that if someone had gamed the system like this and won, they would have been able to disqualify them. And, as someone earlier pointed out, who cares? It's not hurting anyone.

In the end I ended up adding 35 new sets (my initial guess was off). Many of the sets were packs sets that I fully intend to work on, and every set I had 12.5% completion or more (most are much, much higher).
