presidential dollar coin

zippcityzippcity Posts: 1,272 ✭✭✭✭
anybody ever seen or have any ideas as to why or how a presidential dollar coin (normally golden in color) could become solid silver in color. A friend received this from the bank in change this morning along with several others that were the correct color. The coin is the same size and diameter as any other prez. dollar coin. Sorry, no picture or weight. Thanks, zippcity.

It's hard to know without pictures.

there are plenty of guesses from damage(mercury, plating, paint, more) to AT to NT

(I have a couple of chrome plated kennedy half dollars)

I don't think we strike foreign planchets any more.

is it the proper diameter and thckness?

More information is required...could be several reasons including those mentioned above.... pictures, weight, diameter, thickness.... Cheers, RickO

Since I don't have the correct means to measure a coins diameter or thickness, I matched this up with 4coins I cracked out of a proof set and the diameter, thickness appear correct. The weight, 8.1 is consistent with the other 4 coins. Not painted, edge lettering is correct. Been trying for 4 months to post pictures, I just don't get it. Couple of pics in photobucket. Thanks for the help, zippcity.

It's been plated as a novelty item,
and then it ended up in circulation.

Is the edge of the coin 'silver' color also?
I'd bet it is. Let us know.
