I have never consigned with Hunt Auction before....but after seeing some of the outrageous prices some of their raw cards attained tonight, maybe I should send them some raw stuff! Their prices tonight made PWCC & Probstein look like rank amateurs!

I 2nd this with both hands raised! I honestly believe it is easier to navigate Obamacare's website than Heritages - they really need to make it significantly more user friendly

Love the RC Cola line....that was one I'll remember and "steal" when an opportunity presents itself.

Is there an established market for a card that is a 1 of 1 - the only one in existence??

+1. It takes several clicks just to get to the login page and it doesn't get a lot better from there. They say they are working on it, however.

Hi Rick (aka Coke. Or is it Pepsi)?
Can you please address this shill bids on your 65 Pete Rose 9? This is the second time you've listed it. It would be great to understand why it didn't sell the first time. Did the winner refuse to pay because of being shilled?
Here is the first auction:
S=65 Rose 1st Time]http://www.ebay.com/itm/1965-Topps-207-Pete-Rose-Cincinnati-Reds-PSA-9-MINT-CENTERED-HIGH-END-/380728334325?pt=US_Baseball&hash=item58a52d57f5&nma=true&si=zBDtRhmJAo2T4wkCWoPoaj7VL78%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557[/S]
And here is the current auction:
L=65 Rose 2nd Time]http://www.ebay.com/itm/1965-Topps-207-Pete-Rose-Cincinnati-Reds-PSA-9-MINT-CENTERED-HIGH-END-/380738280982?pt=US_Baseball&hash=item58a5c51e16[/L]
Its pretty clear there is shilling going on here in both auctions and that the right move here is to cancel the bids. Not accusing you of having a part in this, more overall sloppiness in high end auction management, you often complain that with all your listings, it's impossible to enforce. Well, here is some information that you can act on.

Sample size is irrelevant. And of course it was conveniently selected. But do you understand why? If not, you may want to put your pom-poms away and excuse yourself from this thread. >>
I am guessing that because private bidders took it from $100 to $1600+ without any bids in between is the issue. One would suspect that there would be some intermediate bids, but for it to make that kind of jump is unfathomable.

So who's the shiller? 0***m had to bid $1597.22 for it to jump with no bids in between, after that it only went up $50 total from two different bidders.
Maybe Coke is out golfing or fishing.
<< <i>The silence from Rick is deafening as usual. I did sent him a private message asking him to please respond about the bidding behavior in these two auctions.

This cat is making it a little too obvious in the Pete Rose listings.

Cancel the shill bids. And take some of all that money he says he's making and invest in headcount that can spend time on the higher end auctions each day to look at suspicious bids and take corrective action where necessary. He just hired Wes, surely he can hire somebody to monitor the higher end listings. There aren't that many 2,000+ auctions running on Rick's site at any given time.
Of course, I suggested cancelling the shill bids to him when I reached out to him. Still, nada.

So you're suggesting a business owner hire a staff member to cancel the bids of potential customers? Which bids are we cancelling, the ones we're 50% sure about or just the 100% sure ones or are we just cancelling all the bidders with private feedback? I would like to know.

Yes, they're easy to pick out. Some are simply suspicious. I'm not talking about those--I'm talking about the obvious ones. I guess your looking for the shiller to tell you he's shilling before cancelling their bid.
<< <i>Have you looked at the Rose auctions. If your doubting that the 0 feedback with 100% of bidding activity on probstein in small increments is a shiller, then I don't know what to tell you.

I'm just trying to picture my reaction if I found out Rick Probstein cancelled a bid on my consigned item because the bidder had 0 feedback and 100% with Rick; I'm fairly certain I would be pissed. I'm sure those Rose cards are shilled; tell Rick and move on. It's ultimately Rick's decision whether he wants to cancel those bids or not. There is no good solution to shill bidding - we just need to learn the signs and avoid those auctions. Shill bidding only works if the seller is outbid.

It's a pretty common practice among eBayers across all categories to cancel bids from buyers with 0 feedback, especially on high priced items. Too many people have been burned. Do you really want to ship that $2,000 baseball card only to find out that the brand new eBay buyer used a stolen credit card?
1. The loss of potential bidders for said seller
2. Reduced returns for the consignor due to reduction of potential bidders
3. Reduced income (and eventually higher consignment rates) for the seller that will blow back onto the consignors in said rate increases
Before going on a witch hunt, it might be prudent to weigh the pros and cons of said witch hunt.
I realize that there are some fishy happenings on eBay. Many examples provided on CU over the years confirm this. However, in the overall picture, most of the complaints are more sour grapes and an opportunity to take pot-shots rather than legitimate damage being caused to the OP's and those that join the masses in seeking a pound of flesh.
With regard to some of the realized prices on some of the raw card auctions as of late, there has always been a premium for well exposed and higher condition raw items that are considered "fresh" product. It is not unusual to see cards sell raw for prices that equal or exceed their value if they were sold in a TPG holder of the same grade. Keep in mind that there are many collectors that DO NOT collect graded cards and will pay strong prices for raw cards that appear fresh and clean. The prices in the auction cited by the OP are strong, but not unusual to those that pay attention to such things.
