Unfortunately I'm one of 'those' people

BBCE purchased sealed boxes still in the sealed BBCE shipping boxes - and will remain that way until a lucky box gets ripped.

  • You don't even open them to make sure a mistake wasn't made when it was packed? I love BBCE too but everybody makes mistakes.

Congrats on having the willpower to keep from ripping any of that. I seem to waste quite a bit of money because I don't have it.

I agree with RyanAdmirer.. They're great, but they have forgotten a box in two seperate instances with me.

not sure I understand that--I can tell you that I would never purchase something still in a shipping box

the cardboard boxes are ugly and unsightly--would rather look at the product

guess I am not "one of those people"

I never really understood this either.

If you don't open it how do you know no mistakes were made or there is no damage?

I know someone who bought and sold several tings this way. He would just slap a new shipping label over the old one and off it went. What if there was damage and his buyer complained? Too much time may have passed from the original purchase to get it corrected and he would be stuck.

I hope that two years from now when you go to open that box of 1979 Topps, you don't instead find a box of 1989 Topps.

    Manny,

Why stop there?? Open the boxes and pull the cards out as well! LOL!

For those not aware, though, there is at least a 20% premium for the product sealed in the original BBCE shipping box! image

Who knows, maybe if I keep getting boxes every now and then - a couple years from now I could get a table at a card show with all my sealed shipping boxes, advertise what's in them and if someone buys one, they open up the shipping box on the spot. At least they'd then know the thing was legit. I'd look like a dork huh ? Doing a card show like that ?? ahh who knows.

It is a bit strange but I actually like having the sealed boxes in the boxes - less chance to break down when toasted and rip it all. image

I see no good coming from this. I would hate to sell a box of cards to someone with MY original invoice inside the box. It's basically saying, "here's how much I paid, and it looks like you paid WAY more!"

I'd open them too, just to verify the contents.

I once bought a boxed set of DVDs for a TV show. It took me around a year to get to the point of watching that particular season of the show. When I finally removed the shrink wrap, I discovered there were no DVDs in the package. All I had was the slipcase and empty folder for the seven DVDs. Needless to say, it was a losing proposition when I went back to the store and asked if I could get a refund (even though I still had the receipt, and the price sticker was on the shrink wrap). There was no way for me to prove I hadn't removed the DVDs myself, and since the return period had long-expired, I was out around $50.

  • Imagine coming home and finding all those boxes on your doorstep. Lol

I agree with most. I would open the bbce boxes but keep the actual contents inside sealed. Sealed is sealed. I don't see why anyone would pay more just because its in a cardboard box. As long as the actual item I want is not tampered with, that's all I care about really.

Do you know what's supposed to be in each box?

    curious minds want to know.
    Whats in each box?
Has to be some great stuff and a lot of it looks like.
  • You're not alone. I have several boxes from BBCE that I never got around to opening. Now, several years later, I have no idea what's inside them. I'll probably open them at Christmas and enjoy the surprise.
Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all "right-thinking" people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.

This is known as “bad luck.”

Well, it's a bit embarrassing but it's 14 separate individual boxes of 1988 Donruss Baseball.

I third this, they missed a full 1985 Topps rack-box on a large order last year. I didn't get home for 3 months to look at it. Of course, being BBCE they sent the cards even after the delay.

I don't have the will power for this unopened stuff. I'd rip through both boxes in a hearbeat. image

This is an interesting approach. Are these pure investment purchases? I like looking at my unopened boxes, but there is definitely a strong investment component or I'd just purchase empty boxes.

ya know, not really sure. I don't know what 'premium' the folks are talking about above. I'm not doing it to add value to the cards. I just reallly like this stuff but not at a time in life to spend the hours required to go through the boxes to find the minty mint cards. The purchases are just piling up image The intent is to rip in to these when a time comes avaiable to do soand have some real fun it, verse just tearing them apart. Not thinking about investment but of course will keep an eye on what these go for over time, if I haven't given in yet. I don't have any extravagant stuff, no 12k boxes here, but there isn't anything to poop on either.

Whatever I do with them is whatever - for now they sit and I know they are there - kinda cool. It is fun though watching the prices go up on things I have already.

I guess I should have been more clear. I like looking at my unopened boxes - the actual Topps boxes - not the BBCE shipping boxes. Sort of like little time capsules sitting on my shelves. And agree - it's definitely fun to see prices going up, although it would be more fun if I owned everything I wanted already. The last few acquisitions have become much more expensive, unfortunately.

The talk above about a 20% premium for still being in the BBCE box is an inside joke poking fun at a person on these boards who was trying to justify a high asking price on an unopened case he purchased from BBCE. This seller said there should be a 20% premium because he had not removed the case from the BBCE shipping box. People generally thought this was pretty silly (as do I), so the joke continues.

I like the idea of wrapping them up and busting one each birthday, Christmas, etc. How much fun would that be?!

Final note - if you think there's anything in those boxes pre-1980 that you might consider selling, PM me!
