Very cool. Amazing how much 1960s and 1970s inventory was once available not long ago. I didn't see any consistent price trends between then and 2013 for baseball 1970s to early 1980s. Very quick look though.

Really cool! Thanks for sharing! I remember buying from the site back then and had forgotten just how extensive Steve's inventory was with regard to 1960s and 1970s unopened. What is very interesting too is to see how prices have risen sharply for some issues (late 1970s, in particular), while other packs are actually less expensive now (like 1973)! So there is definitely room for further appreciation, price-wise, on a number of these issues, imo..

I believe I still have the GAI 9.5 78 rack with Winfield on top, too, LOL!

Strange to see all of the GAI graded packs. When did their reputation start to slide? Was it at the same time PSA started grading packs, or for a different reason?

Very interesting - thanks for posting the link. This was back before BBCE started charging a premium for sealed cases. These days, (theoretically) you can buy 20 individual boxes of a product for noticeably less than a 20-box (sealed) case of the same product.

GAI was pretty reputable overall for graded packs during that time when they were using the silver flip. All Steve used to sell back then were GAI graded packs, as they were the only company out there who graded packs, and even then that was only around 2002 or so when they started, IIRC. I have personally had very few problems with GAI graded packs, at least with the ones I've opened over the years, which is well over 150 packs by now from 1970-1980.

    Well that was sobering.
  • Looking at the 80's, which seems to be on everyone's brain lately, the prices really only went up in the last 6 months. But the prices have not dramatically changed. The biggest change might be 1980 which was actually listed on sale at $275 a wax box. Some prices actually came down like all the 1985 products with the exception of Fleer which was not in stock. But he had Topps at $135 a box, while now its $110 a box (probably before the steroid issue). Also, a 1987 Fleer box at $100!?!? These are currently for $30. Big drop! And $250 for a rack box. I picked one up last year for $55 from him.

86-87 fleer basketball $250 a pack, it'd be nice to stock up on those. Now they're around 350-400.

Very Cool -- I was a single man back then. I could have done some serious buying from that inventory.

    $40 for 79 tray packs....wow

You could have made thousands easy if you would have bought up the 1997 basketball product and sold it now...
  • Some of the increases aren't as drastic as I thought they would be: 1982 Topps Cello Box is listed at $150 and they are (I think) $240 now. While that is definitely an increase in price, when you consider this was 7 1/2 years ago, it's believable. The 1985 Topps Wax/Cello boxes are roughly the same price they were back in '06. It is the price of the late 70's/1980 Topps Boxes that have increased dramatically as (no doubt) the supply has dwindled.

'79 tray packs were easily available 9 months ago for $60 or so. What are they thought to be worth now?

I'm surprised how much the 60s packs were back then. I believe most are selling on eBay for about the same price these days. 1962 pack for $1000 back then!

    a few thoughts:

    1. overall most of the older packs haven't increased much in price

    2. HOWEVER, the availability is staggering of the 60s packs. very cool, I just wish i had those options

    3. 70s basketball hasn't moved much at all. I think there is definitely some growth potential there

    4. early - mid 70s football hasnt moved much, however late 70s has gone up a bunch

    5. 77-81 baseball has exploded in price. (I think we all knew that already)

    6. Steroid era players have killed prices in those 87 fleers as mentuioned

    7. 67 football had some awesome trippy wrappers

Glad to see the 87 topps vending cases came down in price...

really shows how much '50's and 60's packs are drying up. And the scarce stuff that Steve had back then never even made it to the website.
Can't remember the last time he had any '50s packs available, other than the occasional redback pack.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

  • Garbage Pail Kids Series 2 box went from $160 to around $450. Where's that time machine at?
