Blay's 1919 got the bump for the beard, among other things.

It would be cool if we had a coin with a big, puffed up, strutting, Tom Turkey with a huge beard hanging low. ( male turkeys have "beards" extending from their chests. The longer the beard the better the trophy ( as well as spurs, but that's another matter).

I'm surprised Franklin never designed a coin with a turkey on it given he thought it should be America's bird. Maybe he did, I don't know.

Actually it translates German Emperor instead of Emperor of Germany. That is a less prestigious title in both German and English and was deliberate.

This got me to thinking............ The only regular issue coins meant for circulation in the US with a bearded man is the Lincoln cent? This excludes Commems. and one year special issues like the golden dollars. Or am I forgetting something?

Then I happened to see some members of Congress on TV and they were all clean shaven, not even a mustache. I figure there has to be some facial hair in poly-tics but not much these days.

Maybe it's because I live near West Hollywood, CA and know many gay people, but out here, a 'beard' is a woman who lives with a gay guy, the latter wanting to stay in the closet.
