Sept 28, 2013: 9 silvers, 44 wheats, 4 Buffs, 2 Vs and an odd lead seal?

Had plans to check out an older area yesterday but haven't yet gotten permission. So it was on to Plan B. Started off in an area I've hit before, and it was slow going. Did manage a couple of wheats and a small sterling band (0.6 grams). Moved to another I haven't hit yet and within a few minutes three wheat cents came out. That's promising!

No need for more details... here's the take:

2 Sac Dollars
1951-S Franklin half
1956-D Washington Quarter
5 silver dimes - 1957, 1936, 1924, 1905, 1943-d
nickels - 1943-P, 1893, 1899, 1915, 1923, 1928, 1914
44 wheats (1909, 1947, 1941, 1945, 1956-D, 1957-D, 1923, 1912, 1918, 1953, 1941, 1937, 1940, 1953-D, 1941, 1957, 1953-D, 1937, 1927, 1941, 1924, 1944-D, 1934, 1944, 1935?, 1940, 1942, 1941, 1919, 1939, 1938, 1923, 1909, 1918, 1942, 1918, 1948, 1948, 1920, 1920, 1953, 1938, 1928, 1942)
Canada large cent (early 1900s)
Gold plated horseshoe ring
Adjustable junk ring
Gold plated ring with missing stone
Sterling love band
Watch fob
2 B&M lead seals
One unknown lead seal
One long B&M lead seal
Two older pins. One resembles a peanut
Older ford key
One hollow barrel skeleton key?
Monster lead seal? Can anyone ID what it was for?
Good luck horseshoe token

Ended with 188 coins in all. That's a lot of digging.

That's all? Too bad. I hope your next outing is more productive! image

Congrats on an outstanding result, and some interesting variety once again! image

PS. I've never even dug 100 coins on one trip. I've found 51 coins in the same hole one time though (a roll of 50, plus one stray coin)

On that really unusual large lead seal [?] does it bulge out on the other side? Is it really heavy?

I am also curious about that lead piece with a '18' next to it-- is that a bullet? Or does that also seem to be a lead seal? Kinda resembles a piece of lead I dug up but mine has no number on it.

Thanks everyone! It was a lot of digging, and a lot of cleaning.

The large lead thing weighs 88 grams! It does puff out on both sides. Someone on Treasurenet suggested it was a clock pendulum. I thought, "yeah right", then looked at a link he posted: Link Here. That looks like a match to me.

The other mangled lead piece is another bale seal as I believe they are called. I think the "18" may be part of B&M (Boston & Maine Railroad), as several other seals from there had been found.

May be able to get back next weekend, but the more historic place may open up... so we'll see what plays out.

and JohnnyCache... the GPS coordinates are... oh crap, hold on... phone call. Be right back :-)

Ah, a clock pendulum-- that makes sense! Because about 15 years ago, I found a similar such heavy lead bulging both sides piece in a box of old world coins (many were European dating 1600s to mid 1800s, along with a few ancients). My piece had a porticullus kind of design on both sides ( I think). I kinda wish I had kept it but I sold it on ebay. My piece was also heavy and lead.

I don't find 50 zincolns in a day let alone 50 wheats. How many advil did you take either before or after?

haha, it was pretty rough digging at the end of that day. Getting some energy back up to try again this weekend! Might end up being another place though, with more history, so either way should be an exciting day.
