I saved these from being melted.

A man I work with brought 12 rolls of silver dollars for me to look through to see if he had anything worth a premium to melt.I picked out these 15 and made him what we both considered a fair offer and he sold them to me.I would hate to see any of these melted even though none are worth sending in for grading.I think a couple might be 64's and some have some nice rim toning. He did have an 1892-S,but it was in rough condition.Several coins in his rolls were harshly cleaned or even polished, some had graffiti and some had holes.

Unless they are in awful condition I cannot see any point in melting silver dollars - if you don't want them, sell them.

Nice save. However, I cannot imagine melting any silver when it brings a premium on Ebay, damaged or not.

Takes a little effort but the premium far outweighs the cost to sell.

Link and melt today would be $336 if I calculated correctly.

It seems really silly to melt such coins and make them into rounds and bars. I'd bet that most of the refiners who receive bulk silver do separate out coins with numismatic value and resell them.

Good work in preserving these sweet classics!
Would indeed be a shame to melt them..

S mints on some of those Peace dollars would have been a big bonus!

Can you post obverse and reverse pictures of them?

Cool grab Dave, I would hand a few of them out as Xmas gifts to close friends, older kids and besty coworkers. A cheap but personal gift that might just start a spark!

While some shop owners and/or Ebay sellers might cherry-pick such coins, by the time they get to the actual refiners they are worth NOTHING but their silver content.

I was once told that 90% silver coins are rarely melted. Their purity and value are well known and instead of spending for melting and refining most of the time they are simply bagged and sold or traded in bulk.

Anyone know if this is true?
