1984 Donruss-- ever notice how many of the cards look almost exactly alike?

There are several cards in 1984 Donruss that look alike at first glance. Like...

Dwight Evans and Glenn Hoffman. Jim Sundberg and Bob Johnson.

Ozzie Smith and Glenn Brummer.

Brian Downing, Steve Lubratich and Juan Benequez

Bob Stoddard and Ed Vande Berg (Makes it look like a reverse negative.) Cliff Johnson and Barry Bonnell. Mike Heath and Carney Lansford.

Hubie Brooks and Straw. Vance Law and Ron Kittle. (Good thing those guys were wearing different uniforms and caps. That was an error card waiting to happen.)
Dave Concepcion and Gary Redus.

    awesome! great attention to detail
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
  • That is pretty funny. Kind of like school photos in Elementary School when they just set up the camera in 1 spot and they take photos of each kid that steps up to the stool. Good catch.

    Funny...and ridiculous.
  • That is kind of crazy, is this he best 80's set to own? What's everyone's opinion on that? Or would overall lack of rookies knock it back some?

I think it's funny how many of those cards have the "fan bubbles" in the background. Cool thread!

On a related note, I noticed that Donruss seemed to have a specific part of Nolan Ryan's windup for his early 1980's cards.

1982-1986 Donruss "Sportflics" Nolan Ryan winding up for pitch (with 1981 Donruss finishing it off).

I like the Donruss design, but not a fan of the photography.

Gotta love Nolan, but those Astros uniforms on the 82 card are just awful. Who in their right mind would have thought those were a good idea?

interesting how many guys were choking up and presumably employing shorter, more compact swings.

    no one looks juiced, either.

well, except for Downing. he was pretty ripped. and his swing looked more like that of a psychotic rancher trying to behead several chickens at once.

my ocd really needs you to put the 81 donruss first. Also he had 2 base cards in 81 donruss if I am not mistaken the other was more of a close up like 82-86

Actually, I think the 83 needs to go first (ball still in glove based on arm angle). 82 & 84 are almost the same stage of the pitching motion from different angles.
  • Speaking of Kittle. I wonder how a guy that hit 40, then 50 home runs in the minors could make such a small splash in the big leagues.

    +1
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
