Sharing some mancave pics.....

I posted on a topic earlier tonight, and realized I've now been here 8 1/2 years!!! Where does the time go??? It got me reminiscing and looking around my room I've been working on and thought it might be fun to share a couple of pictures. One thing I've learned over my years here is there are always other collectors who have more than you can ever dream to afford, and others who might actually be impressed by what you have. But in the end, if you're happy collecting, your stuff is priceless.

So here's a couple of pics, just for fun..............

I made my payment for the last group rip yesterday. My thought when paying was, "I can't wait to get my packs". But I'm not sure why I'm excited about getting them.....it seems I've been part of a lot of group rips, and the packs just get put away.

As you can guess from my CU name, I'm a big fan of the Reds. The Big Red Machine is a thing of lore for me, I didn't get to my first Reds game until 1979. But the '75 team is a legend. It's the only team set I've ever put together. I bought some Styrofoam and frame and went to work. Came up with this....

Of course, no Big Red Machine collection would be complete without autos of the Big 4......

Back to unopened for just a minute.....I've never been able to afford high dollar stuff. But somewhere around 2001, shortly after I got back in to collecting cards, I bought a blaster box that I didn't open. From time to time after that, anytime I had a few extra bucks, I'd buy two blaster boxes. I'd often open one and just put the other one away. I bought a box of 2013 topps football the other day, and when I put it on my shelf, counted and realized I now had 80 unopened boxes!!! May not be worth much, but fun to collect and look at.........

image

Of course, it's important to pick up a rookie card or two when I can afford it...

image

All in all, I'm still just collecting what I enjoy. I'm slowly putting a midgrade 1948 bowman set together, I can't wait to finish and display. Might be a couple years before I pick up the last 10 or 12 high dollar ones I need. But as I sit here watching the Reds/Cardinals game, I look around and feel kind of proud of my collection. It's been an honor to be around the last 8+ years, I hope to be around many more. Here's a couple more pics from the mancave that I recently finished.....complete with not only my collection of cards, but kids toys too!! image

Very nice set-up. Looks like a relaxing place to sit back ... have a few cold ones ... watch a game ... and RIP open a few packs!

Did nobody else notice the positioning of the J in the Morgan signature? That makes the room.

Shawn, awesome pictures, thanks for sharing. I'm waiting for the kids to go off to college before I reclaim the basement. Too much potential for an unfortunate accident, lol.,

Awesome man cave. Thanks for posting. I appreciate getting to see others collections. It also gives the rest of us ideas. Funny, my basement has a lot of similarities, all the way down to having the same coach ! Like you said, it doesn't matter how much it is worth, or what it costs. After a handful of years of collecting on a budget, you look back and have something to be proud of. Great collection.

Shawn, love the set-up. The one thing I miss about Ohio is having a basement.......tough to do in Charleston when you are at sea level. image

Now, about the tissue box on the table......it's a man cave, do none of your shirts have sleeves?

Although a snappy remark about porn would be most appropriate here, the truth is there are still a few places in the house my wife can't seem to resist putting a dang Longaberger basket!!! I'm weeding them out of the cave.

Thanks for the kind remarks, the room is a continuous work in progress. I'll continue to add things from time to time, but my personal preference is for a "clean" look, not a cluttered wall like the inside of an Applebees. To each there own.

There may come a day for a huge RIP, who knows?? I often wonder what might be in the 80 blaster boxes. But I've opened enough of them to know that 9 times out of 10, they're probably better left sealed up.

Mark, I'll send you a PM with my Bowman needs shortly, thanks!!

Fair enough, and since you brought up the wife, shame on your having her picture on the mantle which probably makes her feel that she's welcome in there.

Edited to add: I had to google longaberger basket. Are you kidding me? I'm just messing with you Shawn, enjoy your nonspecificgendercave.

Nick, I actually knew what a longaberger basket is...pretty sad actually.
