Gold detecting

I'm spending a couple of months in Australia and had to get myself a gold machine (Minelab GPX 5000) in an attempt to lure some nuggets out of the ground.
Armed with that (and the required Miner's Right), I'm off to the bush..

Now (in the middle of winter) is a good time to detect. I doubt I'll be able to go a full day when the weather heats up.

Snakes should also be less of an issue in cold weather. I'm not a big fan of them, and Australia of course has all the most poisonous ones.
Ugh.
(No snake in this picture though, just some scenery)

Wallabys are plentiful

After quite a bit of walking, grunting and a ton of rubbish dug, I have my first results image
Small stuff, but still sweet to find!

PS. Tried some panning too, with limited success (this is really small stuff)

Awesome! What part of Australia are you in?

Any Sheilas go gold hunting with you on your walkabouts?

If so, who is better at finding the gold flakes and nuggets?
  • This is cool! Looking forward to more pics and stories.

Ha! So far, not even close. Cold, wet, dirty, long walks, boooooring, ..
If you have magic one liners, let me know!

I've had more "success" in gold being enthusiastically claimed after it's out of the ground and back in Melbourne! imageimage

If they do not go out with you on your gold hunting walkabouts, are any Sheilas back home willing to root for your success?

That is great. I panned gold in New Zealand, with about the same luck as you have had - so far. Did not make it to Australia. Try the opal fields while you are there too.... Cheers, RickO
