Philippines inverted mintmarks - photos added

Posted this on the darkside forum also...

Does anyone here have (or know where to find) comparson photos of the normal and inverted mintmarks on the 1908-S Philippines 10 centavos? I've got a coin that may be a candidate, but haven't been able to find out much about identifying the variety.

Here are photos of the mintmark on the coin that I have..

It is possible, but I'd need a higher grade to be sure

Look at a 1908-S $20 Saint or $10 Indian. The mint mark on your coin doesn't look inverted to me in the top picture. (It does in the bottom one, though. image)

I have a 44 d/s dime. Not inverted but a clear over MM

Not sure if I agree it is inverted but looks like you could have the s-over-s variety instead.
  • Yes, you have an inverted "S" mint mark. What you look for is the thin curve should be up and the thicker curve down on a correctly aligned "S". Tried to attach photos of one graded PCGS MS64 and attributed, but the file will not load. I get the Upload Box to open and the file uploaded to the Box, but the Attach button does not load the file. Any suggestions what the problem might be?

The "attach" method only works with images up to 50k in size. You can link to images without any size limitations. You can create a free account on photobucket to have a place to put pix you want to link to.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

  • Yes, the files were less than 50K.

If inverted, it's still S/S, in my opinion.
  • Nice coin and picture jetblack. According to the Properties of the picture it is 219K in size, so looks like there is not a 50K limit on file size.
