Huge Thank You To Manny, flatfoot816, For Helping Me Snag My White Whale

First of all, I am a Greg Maddux collector first and foremost. Like many, I collected in my early days, teen years in the eighties up to the mid-90's. I became a Greg Maddux fan early on and was a player collector of him way back then. I had some decent items of him, but growing up in small town North Carolina and before the internet age, the selection I had at local shops was not that great. Fast forward to a few years ago and I re-started my Maddux collection and I was amazed by the scope of it all. I had no idea some of the items even existed. I have done well in putting together a solid collection, multiple minor league PSA 10s, a Venezuelan rookie, multiple David Berg(Wrigley giveaway sets) rookie cards with one PSA 10. One card has always eluded me is the 1987 Canon Greg Maddux rookie. The only way that this card could be obtained back in 1987 was from writing fan mail to the Cubs players, and when you receive a correspondence back the Canon Photocard would be included.

A thread was posted here on the boards of wantlists for those that could not attend the National. I ended up connecting with Manny, he said he had also collected Maddux cards and would look for the Canon Photocard for me. That Friday I get a text from Manny that he found one for me, I could not even describe my elation! I received it in the mail recently and what a beauty it is! There have only been 8 graded by PSA, can't wait until that changes to 9. I am forever in debt to Manny, to do something for someone he barely even knows is a true testament to his character! Thank you so much Manny!

It's threads like these that make the drama threads that much more tolerable.

Nice card. Boy is Greg bright-eyed and bushy-tailed there.

This is why the boards and the camaraderie is great for the hobby.

Yeah, luckily Greg is not sporting his pencil-thin mustache like the one on his '87 Donruss Rated Rookie!

Glad Manny was able to help you out. He is as great a guy in person as he is on the board. Wait a minute, he is probably even better in person. image

I know from trying to look for stuff for other people at the National, it can be chaotic at times so it is great when you find something for someone else. Great job Manny!!!

Glad you found her! That's one thing I love about this forum, I have had members go out of their way to give me a heads up on Bo items as they come up for sale. Good to have such cool people on my team!

I think I was happier to find this card for you Jason than I was to find unopened at BBCE.
