I never get tired of digging tokens. this one is good for a drink or cigar at the Lafayette saloon. its from Etna CA, dates to 1897. the enameled plate and bear are from CSAA ( can't find history of it). 1949 teamsters truck pin, snuff bottle.

My home is old, built on annexed farmland in 1877.
Immediately found the 'hump', indicative of the trash pit.
So many old bottles and crocks, only down 3-4-feet and 5'diameter. LONG way to go.
Only problem is the Wife wants to dig like mad, I have to tell her, 'I'ts like archeologists on a TV show!"
Grrrrrrrrrrrr.
Found a 3 cent nickel and Indian heads, quarters, the usual.
She 'FEELS' treasure back there, starting to as well.
Take Care.
the bottle is a snuff, which i'm guessing is from around the 1920's.
I haven't had an 1870's dump in a long time. if there was one on my property, I would dig slow and sift every inch. any photos? what state are you from?
The weather in the Fall is a nice time to sift through it.
May have found the privy.
The hump is about 6'wide, maybe 30 feet long, tapering close to ground.
At the end is a stoned in area 20 'feet long by 5' wide with various bushes-floweres in it.
By stoned, just field stone used to make a border.
And some stone steps leading down a hill in the rear of the property.
I never get tired of diggin' old tokens, either.
