Something Cool & Personal

My father passed away in Mar 2011 at the age of 58, much too young. When I was going through his things I came across this ball he had apparently kept since 1981 when I played tee-ball. I keep it in a silver locking box that was also his where he used to store a pistol under the bed. I forget about it sometimes but every now and then I have reason to go into the box as I store some other valuables there. It's in rough condition, but it's something that always makes me feel good.

  • I lost my Dad July 2010. He lived a full life, but, it was still to young as far as I am concerned. The man was and still is my hero! I miss him every day. The only thing that I wanted of his was his shoes. I keep them as a constant reminder. I could never fill those shoes on my best day!

Two GREAT posts guys. I too am very close to my dad and VERY lucky to still have both my parents at the age of 55.

That ball and pair of shoes are PRICELESS.
    STAY HEALTHY!

I have a ball like that from my t-ball days. I hope to give it to my son when he's older. I've got a box of things in his closet that I look forward to giving. My only fear is that he won't find them interesting. But I'm fairly confident as most of the items are kid-friendly... batman symbol flashlight, my old baseball glove, some vintage toys, etc. Let us not forget a 1969 Mets pennant which my father gave to me. But alas my son is only 4 months old so we've got a bit of waiting to do ...

That's very cool Nathan, my dad is still living, but he has a ball like that when I played baseball.

Snuffy, powerful stuff about your day's shoes!

    Very cool indeed.
That ball is worth more than a signed mantle 100X over.

My dad is 78 and he often says how much enjoyment he had coming to see me play baseball.

I know the feeling..my son plays.
