AROD Cards?

Assuming you didn't already sell your high-end AROD cards, what do you do with them now? Burn them, give them away, sell them for pennies on the dollar???

Thoughts?

I'm pretty sure people who were still collecting ARod after all the steroids allegations won't stop collecting him now...

The first steroid confession from a few years ago effectively halved the price of his 1994 SP PSA 9s. It looks like they've plummeted even further in the past month, crashing from a price in the $150 range down to below $80.

May be a good time to buy A Rod cards. Because I believe we are getting much closer to some alleged "saints of the game" being exposed as ped users. Current and former. Someone, somewhere is going to blow the windows out of some glass houses.

If you really want an A-Rod card, then maybe, but you'd still be better off waiting.

If you think you're investing, then no, don't do it. It didn't work with Bonds cards.

I think you are spot on. Bonds cards kept going lower for years. A PSA 9 1987 Fleer peaked in the $160 range. It can now be had at anytime on thepit.com for $9.50.

If I were considering buying Arod cards I think looking for his most sought after card in a year or so would be the way to play it in the highest grade possible. If you look at many of the players with tainted records their best cards have bottomed out years later and are some what on the mend.

This is a falling knife that I think will go lower in the short run.

No interest in A Rod here. What I had was sold long ago, Oct 2000. It is a combination of comical and sad though watching a few folks dump cards of a once beloved(not universally beloved, but Alex has/had his die hard fans) while breaking out the pitchforks and looking to burn him at the stake. Personally, I'd wait if I were them. This hasn't all played out yet PED scandal wise. It's bound to get much bigger. And is really going to test some fans of truly beloved players IMO.

I have his 1994 Upper Deck Auto RC in a BGS 10 - Pristine (10, 10, 10, 9.5 subs) w/ a 10 auto grade. Hmmm, what to do with it?

Thoughts? I know, I should have sold it years ago. What about now?

Why cross a BGS 10 to a PSA 10? Isn't PSA 10 more along the lines of a BGS 9.5?

  • don't like Arod at all, that being said, I've always wanted to own a 94 SP Red Holoview and will pick one up if the prices go low enough.

True, BGS 9.5 does not hold up to PSA 10 for this and Jeters SP RC

Didn't work with my 1981 Topps. They're still as banged up as ever.

That a$$-clown chouser owes me $500.

With more modern cards you gotta know when to hold 'em and know when to fold 'em.

Personally I don't have time for that crap and don't buy any single cards post 1980.

But for those of you stuck with A-Rod -- I hope you have a very prosperous relationship.
    Just like the Yankees.

It looks like the BGS 9.5 is going in the $300 range. Do you remember what that card would sell for at its peak?
