Edited to add - Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez was suspended through the end of the 2014 regular season. I am sure he is going to appeal. Who knows when it will begin.
The names of the 12 players who will be suspended as a result of the Biogenesis scandal have been reported by multiple media outlets, ahead of the official announcement from Major League Baseball.
The following players all have agreed to serve their suspensions without appealing:
Nelson Cruz, Texas Rangers; Jhonny Peralta, Detroit Tigers; Jesus Montero, Seattle Mariners; Francisco Cervelli, Yankees; Everth Cabrera, San Diego Padres; Jordany Valdepsin, New York Mets; Antonio Bast*rdo, Philadelphia Phillies; Sergio Escalona, Houston Astros; and minor leaguers Fernando Martinez of the Yankees, Fautino de los Santos of the Padres, Cesar Puello of the Mets and free agent Jordan Norberto.
(No word yet on the fate of Alex Rodriguex, who is expected to be suspended through the end of the 2014 season.)
This suspension will not sit well with Texas. Cruz could have appealed the decision and been eligible to play during that process, which could have extended for a significant amount of time and been a boost to the Rangers’ playoff chances. But, he’s a free agent after season, and any appeal would have delayed the suspension and, if upheld, spilled over into 2014. That, obviously, would have hurt his chances of maximizing his next contract. It’s going to be painted as a self-over-team choice by Cruz, and it leaves the Rangers in an unenviable position.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

Slap on the wrist is all that is. If we tested positive for any drugs by our jobs, we would get fired. Yet these guys continue to get off easy. How long has steroids been a HUGE issue - since Canseco came out and made it public? (2005) and yet players continue to use because its completely worth the risk with minimal suspensions such as these. Almost 10 years later in the public eye and yet MLB still doesnt get it.
<< <i>50 Games. Big Whoop. Slap on the wrist is all that is. Almost 10 years later in the public eye and yet MLB still doesn't get it. >>
Marc ... I agree 100%.

Agreed. People with forearm strains and hamstring injuries miss 50 games. That's not even two months of the season.

<< <i>I think for those suppended who are on playoff contendings teams just recieved a vacation. Doesn't seen like a penalty if they can still play in the playoffs. >>
I'm sure their accountants don't see it as a vacation, nor do the fans of those playoff contending teams that would like to have their services available for the stretch run. If MLB wanted to make sure they sat out the playoffs, they should have started the suspensions in a couple weeks. Convenient of MLB to wait until after the trade deadline to announce their decisions. Both MLB and the accused players botched this mess long ago. What a cluster.
<< <i>I read the title wrong..I thought ARod just got 50 games...he got 211...guess he is appealing and playing tonight. I wish I had been home to see him go up to bad and get the boos from the fans. >>

Think that relates to when the 'Stros traded for Miggy a day before the Mitchell Report.
