Never realized that old magnifers were worth so much $$. Good rate of return if you bought and kept one of these.

Sadly so, the buyers probably wanted a memento of one of the foundational products of B & L as made in my hometown. That came to an end this week as B & L was acquired by a Canadian company (Valeant), which is moving their manufacturing base to New Jersey. This is like having salt rubbed in a wound, in light of the demise of the other big manufacturer here - Eastman Kodak.

WOW! I love my 10x/20x combo I got for $20-30 somewhere. I think it's fantastic. I have misplaced it a few times, bought other 10x loups that were terrible so I do know the difference between good and bad loupes. I have looked through a couple of GREAT LOUPES but it isn't worth it to me to leap from $30 to $200+.

Old B&L Ray Bans are going for big bucks these days too. (But only if they're pre-Luxotica vintage.)

A "caution" on modern B&L 'Sight Savers' cheap magnifiers... I bust these apart and machine down the plastic lens for one small replica camera I build. Optically misshapen junk more distorting than magnifying. Dosent matter in the replica camera (a display) but JUNK for a magnifier

So does this mean my old BL Hastings 20x from the 1980s is worth $434 ??? image

Mine has unique initials scratched into the cover, too. image

I prefer Zeiss magnifiers..... and although expensive, are cheaper than that one, and far better quality. (I have used the B&L). Cheers, RickO

I think what happened here is that this B&L is code for a Box of Looney-grass. And we just didn't get the memo.
Do you remember like 10 years ago when there was beanie babies code for a huge marijuana online sales operation?
