Nice article and glad the writer didn't add any of his own opinions on MDing. It is a shame many people just don't understand how innocent the hobby can be.
Unfortunately, there are those that will tear up a place without permission but they do so primarily because of the laws and restrictions imposed locally.

It would be sooo nice if the clubs getting together can manage some changes. I wish them much luck!
Everything starts and everything stops at precisely the right time for precisely the right reason.

There are several problems metal detectorists encounter....one is those who would rather leave artifacts in the ground to rot, than have anyone bring them to light outside of a planned archaeological project. Second are those who think the hobby damages lawns etc.. Third is 'slob' detectorists who leave holes and garbage in their wake. Most MD'rs are conscientious, polite and are aware of laws, strictly abiding by the regulations. Between ignorance of the hobby and slobs, we fight a continuous battle. Cheers, RickO
