Help a Newbie Post Images

Hi--

I'm new to the boards and am having a devil of a time figuring out how to post images. I set up a Flickr account to host images once I determined that photos had to be online elsewhere, but I'm still having trouble. I run two professional business sites with loads of images and video, and the fact that I can't figure this out is driving me nuts. Little help? Thanks.

    1) Upload pictures to Flickr (done)

    2) Figure out the direct URL to your picture

    3) In your post here, click on the little picture icon above the message box (next to the underlined U)

    4) Put the URL for the picture into the box. Click OK.

    DONE.

Or, take a look at how I've done it here by clicking reply with quote on my post:

I notice that your image didn't come through for me, though I see most people's images. I'm using Firefox on a Mac: could that be an issue?

You need it to say [ IMG ] before the web address and [ /IMG ] after it with no spaces in the brackets. If you click on the little picture button directly to the right of the underline button, and paste your web address in there, it will do it for you.

edit: your picture's web address should end in .jpg

Thanks a lot for the advice. I'll try to post a few here. I appreciate your patience.

The Flickr urls do not end in jpg, I notice. When I enter the URL, it does automatically add the IMG in brackets.

    Looks like Flickr nuance, Dave.

    Did you try this?:

Flickr: Where is the HTML code and photo file link?

The HTML code to embed a photo in a web page that you used to find on the All Sizes page is now only in the Share menu on the photo, to the left of the More menu. We now also include BBCode! (standard message board code)

There are a few cases where the code may not be available: 1) If the photo is restricted. 2) If that person has turned off "Share this" or access to original files.

The direct link to a photo file is no longer shown on the page. Per the Flickr Community Guidelines "pages on other websites that display content hosted on flickr.com must provide a link from each photo or video back to its page on Flickr." Linking directly to the photo file doesn't do this.

Here's a good thread, though a tad outdated: Link

After uploading the image in Photobucket, on the right hand side, look below "Links to share this photo" and left click the url labled "Direct".

Then come here and click this icon image (to the right of U and left of http).

When the "URL for this image" box comes up, right click and paste the url.

    Click OK.

Let me try a couple things:

    <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/87703347@N00/9377673909/" title="71Helms by fanningbooks, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3734/9377673909_75b65228d0.jpg" width="293" height="500" alt="71Helms"></a>

Thanks again for the help, everyone.

This is the part you need to use from all that: "http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3734/9377673909_75b65228d0.jpg"

Typically it'll start with the "http://" and end with the ".jpg" That's the address to directly link the picture.

Copy that part, then click the image button and paste it in. After submitting your message, it'll look like this to everyone else:
