1907 Proof Set for the The Weekend™

PQueuePQueue Posts: 901 ✭✭✭
I believe Ambro recently started a thread saying it was getting a little slow on the Boards. I see it has already picked up now that RYK is back.

I will contribute a little with this partially completed Proof Set from 106 years ago.

Partial 1907 Proof Set

  • Holy smokes. When you said a partial set, I was expecting a dime and a nickel.

    Nice!

    Really? No DCAMS?

Just kidding, amazing coins. Cameo gold proofs are truly exceptional to look at.

I see you got the easy ones out of the way. Now you can tackle the hard to find copper, nickel and silver coins to complete the set. image

Wow, what an amazing group of gold.

Regarding DCAMs, after 1901 they essentially do not exist. This is the reason why my $20 Liberty is special to me (it is very, very close to DCAM). There are no PCGS graded DCAM $5s or $10s after 1901, no $20 DCAMs after 1900. My set has as much contrast as you get for the later date Liberty Proofs. Years ago I was fortunate to find an original set consisting of the $2.5, $5, and $10. I value this [been all together as a set] aspect very highly. I later acquired the best matching $20 I could afford. Thanks everyone for the nice comments.

What a set, I am impressed.

That $2.50 is the best IMO based on those photos. Truly stunning. I would call that DCAM.

The rest are also very great!

I know the PCGS photos of proofs don't always show their most attractice angle, in fact some of my secure plus images seem to show the harshest "side" possible. I am drooling at the thought of what these must look like in person! Someone buy this man a image

Beautiful set. As a matter of curiosity, what guided your decision to build the 1907 set?

A wonderful click with my morning coffee! Very nice, indeed.

Now it should be a piece of cake to get the lesser denoms, you've got the hard part done!

LOVE the fact that you were able to find the $2 1/2, $5, & $10 in an original set and keep them together. Those are some beautifully well matched pieces with very attractive contrast. Most certainly a set to be proud of. Thanks for sharing. Quite impressive!!

    Hello DHeath
RE: Beautiful set. As a matter of curiosity, what guided your decision to build the 1907 set?

Easy, the set consisting of the $2.5, $5, $10 became available to me. I thought I would never have a chance like that again.
