One could argue that since gold is sold in small fractions (1/10 oz, etc) you could buy small amounts... however, premiums are still higher for gold than, say, junk silver.

Yeay... Poor man's gold.
But of course, like all fair deals...
I bought it back for over $200 when he needed the money.
Probably more a medium of exchange for currency than a poor man's gold. More like a smart man's "hiding place for money", from his wife

An acquaintance used the term recently and based on the price per ounce it sorta makes sense to me. FWIW, I'm a poorer man at the moment for the gold I own as opposed to the silver I own.

It's a highly speculative thinly traded metal. I've seen people jump on board on the way up only to not be able to handle the price action on the way down and then capitulate. Some get sucked in because they think they are getting more bang for their buck over gold. More ounces in their hand and easier to buy in small increments.

Is copper the poor man's silver?

I think that cements Silver as "Poor mans Gold"
Also-
I think Rich men know this, & buy Silver in bulk then sell it to poor men & become richer.

I'd agree. Especially since the spot prices of the 2 seem to often move in the same direction.
I'm expecting an upswing in both in the coming months.
Silver is a slightly less poor mans Gold
but Gold is always going to be Gold whether you rich or poor
