Chance at a 8?

This is the rare GRAY back version 1981 OPC
It is a pop 1 in PSA 8 with none higher. I have never seen a centered copy. Most come with little to no border at all!
The other PSA 8 sold on Ebay a while ago at $200!

Do I have a shot on this 1?

I would say 7, and possibly an 8. Its worth a shot sending it in IMO.

It has a shot. Give it a try or 2.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

Lower right corner may be what keeps it out of an 8. image

Given how tough this card is....8 is possible. I'm thinking minimum 7. Nice card!
  • I am going to say no 8 due to L/R centering and bottom right corner probably a 6.5 or 7

Tom, I am going to say no. Looks like an 8 O/C to me.

Mislabeled without the "gray back", caught it in time. They are fixing it along with the other 1981 graybacks I sent in

Nice work on the 8! I was thinking 7 but good for you for sure. I actually have a gray back that is pretty much perfectly centered, but unfortunately it wouldn't grade higher than a 3.5 to 4 due to corner wear image Oh well. No big deal seeing corner wear from previous owners on a card that is OC and never had a chance at high grade even straight out of the factory after cutting, but it is disappointing to see the centered ones after they've been roughed up over the years.

NEAR MINT-MINT 8 1981 O-PEE-CHEE 347 HAROLD BAINES Card image pop 1 with none higher on this card as well. Also a Gray Back!
This card is just as difficult to find centered.
These were a couple bright spots on a overall bad sub. I dont think this grader knows much about opc cuts!

    Awesome Baines!

I have a question about 1981 OPC: I have some white backs and some gray backs, but I've never opened packs or a box of it on my own and only acquired them after they were opened. If you buy a box of them, will you get a mix of white and gray backs, or will they be either all white or all gray?

They will all be cream colored backs or all gray backs
