Darren Daulton has been diagnosed with gioblastoma. This is the same disease that claimed Gary Carter. Let's hope he is the lucky 10% who survive longer than 5 years from this terrible disease.

Here are some other players that have passed from this terrible illness
Dick Howser, Johnny Oates, pitchers Dan Quisenberry and Tug McGraw, and outfielder Bobby Murcer
this is a shame

What is with former catchers having illnesses associated with cancer? It almost seems like this position has a higher amount of cancer issues for some very odd reason. I know Gary Carter, Johnny Oates and Daulton are dealing with this and former catcher Ed Herrmann who played for the White Sox among other teams is dealing with cancer as well right now. It makes you wonder thats for sure.
And no disrespect by this comment as I am just wondering if there is a correlation, didn't Darren Daulton have issues with some off the wall comments or beliefs a few years ago? I will have to look that up but I thought he was a bit wacky with some things he said. One cannot help but wonder if what he is dealing with now contributed to his crazy talk a few years ago.

It does seem to have a higher incident rate in MLB than the general population. I've seen estimates as low as one incident per 200,000 people up to 2-3 incidents per 100,000 people. How many big leaguers have played in the past 50 years? 15,000? Yet we have at least 6 cases highlighted in this thread. Maybe they need to look into the types of fertilizers or pesticides they are using on the grass.

Or perhaps the tobacco chewing, the drugs (amphetemines, etc) these athletes were exposed to or any number of other items that are common to Major League Baseball players. It would be interesting to do a study to see what these players had in common across all the years they played, besides playing baseball of course. Some of these guys highlighted didnt play in the steroid era but did play when "greenies" were common. Others may have chewed tobacco while others used the dip. I am not trying to indict any specific player but I am just curious if there was one thing that is common among these players which may have caused the cancer they are now experiencing. I am sure we will never find out but it is one of those things that make you go HHHMMMMMMMMMMMM.
