William Paul of American Heritage Minting, Philadelphia

JulianJulian Posts: 3,370 ✭✭✭
passed away on 7/3 after a long battle with multiple myeloma. He was a life long numismatist, expert in US and European. He is survived by his wife and two sons and brother, fellow numismatist, Bob Paul.

RIP, Bill image
PNG member, numismatic dealer since 1965. Operates a retail store, also has exhibited at over 1000 shows.
I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.

A great guy, well-known to most on the East Coast as generous with his time and knowledge. My condolences to his wife Rosine, his sons, in which he had such pride, and by whom he was given much joy, and his brother Bobby. imageimage

Sad news. Billy was one of the best in the business, and I doubt anybody has ever fought harder to stay in the game to the last possible moment.

Sorry to hear this. First met him at a show in the mid 1980's when I was a college student at the University of Maryland.

I'll miss him as well - used to call him "Uncle Bill" for some reason, even though he was only a bit older. I used to stop by and see him and Dave at the Baltimore and ANA shows in the mid-Atlantic.

    My best to the family.

That is very sad news indeed. His partner told me at Long Beach that he was very ill. I bought several
British silvers from him over the last few years and always enjoyed my interactions with him. He was a
knowledgeable and fair dealer, and a genuinely nice man. The hobby is the poorer.

    RIP, Mr. Paul.

I am very sorry to hear this. He was one of the great guys in our profession.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

  • I am very sad about the loss of Billy Paul. I've known Billy for my entire professional career. He was a top-notch guy in every way. When my father first started DLRC back in 1979 Billy was one of the dealers who looked out for him and gave advice, numismatic and personal. Later in life, he taught me an awful lot about world coins as he was a real specialist in British and French coinage (among others!). He will be sadly missed by all of us who had the good fortune to know him. RIP Billy.

Very sorry to hear this, I remember at the June Baltimore show, Bill was not there, the person at his table said that he was in the hospital for several weeks.

If we are remembered by those we touch in a positive way, Bill would be the poster child and inspiration. I remember some of the great stories he would tell, he had some great conspiricy theories about everything, especially the government. You would just be passing by and say hello, which would turn into a hour long great discussion about something. I can just picture Billy at Heaven's gate, holding up the line, having a long discussion with Saint Peter. He was one of those outgoing friendly people and will be missed.
