Do you trust BCCG flips....

to at least be authentic and unaltered?

I'm looking at a vintage card in a BCCG flip, and if authentic/unaltered could be a steal. I know the grade won't match PSA scale, but would you trust it that much at least?

BccG is what prevents me from collecting Beckett graded cards at all. I'm no expert on what they do, but you can't grade like that and then have my trust on some other part of the company. Curious to see if someone has some insight to think it could be of any value.

I'm not an expert in the least but I've cracked a few bccg and theyve all been good.

However, i recently cracked open a BCCG 10 Randy Johnson Tiffany traded rookie. It looked like a solid 9 or 8 at the worst. I look on the website today to find out it was graded a 6! Still authentic....but a 4 point drop was a shock.

I have no idea how that could've graded so low but I'll post a picture when I get it.

Edited to add: by good I mean authentic

I trust the authenticity factor more than their ability/effort to spot altered cards.

Bear in mind there are a plenty of blah vintage PSA 5/6/7s that sell for decent coin as low end BCCG 9s, so there are plenty of legit ones out there. It wouldn't surprise me if you found a needle in a haystack in a BCCG holder, but over time you're going to lose money busting BCCG cards looking to resell raw or regrade to PSA.

Guys it's a different grading scale. Read the grading title for a more accurate representation... BCCG 10 = Mint or Better etc... I've done well with them.

I think you can trust their authenticity, and if they say a card is un-altered. I believe the graders who slab the BGS cards are the same graders that slab the BCCG cards. But like someone previously mentioned, BCCG's grading scale is much different than bgs or psa.

That poor grade on the Johnson might just be a mis-grade also. I cracked a Fingers rookie a couple months ago that I knew was much better than the 6 that it came back as in its first sub and when I got it back the 2nd time it was an 8. It happens.
I'm a big Nolan Ryan fan OK???!!!

100% authentic but read the fine print. I've had good luck cracking out and getting what the grade is but the number will never cross over.

Thanks for the comments. I'm not expecting the number to cross-over, just wanted to know if it would be auth/unalt.

Even Psa graded cards have been cracked/submitted and then deemed altered by Psa. It's not an exact science. It cost me a neg on eBay when I sold a Goudey Ruth that was a psa good 2. I sold it raw years after I bought it and the buyer neg'd me because it came back altered.
  • I trust they will sell at PSA 6 or 7 rates, and I trust that BCCG 10's are not better than a PSA 8.

I've had cards rejected by BCCG as trimmed/altered, so yes they actually do try and weed out the bad cards.

I would have nothing but those slabs in my collection if that was really their name.

Seriously though, I've purchased 2 BCCG 10s in my life. They were both centered and looked great all around. I cracked both of them out, subbed them to PSA and they both came back 9 NQ. So, just like any other situation, buy the card, not the holder. I've also seen BCCG 10s that are OC with corner and edge issues too.
  • We do not trust anything but PSA, why bother, just train yourself to submit great cards.
