I was just going to write about no 54 Aaron. This list is good and I know you cant always please the masses but how can they have an AROD rookie card but not 1 single Hank Aron? Wow!

i dont have a problem with the Arod...its more with the two error cards. while interesting they werent the first error cards that drove a craze in the card industry. also the card of jordan is a little out of place as well. though the card of Bo is a great card i wouldnt call it iconic. i do like the inclusion of the first jersey card, that is iconic. they should have also included the first auto'd card as well. but to leave off a 54 Aaron for any of those is nuts.

Wow. Was that written in 2003 or something? No Aaron, No Cobb, No '53 Bowman Reese. How about a Mel Ott? Nope instead we get some jersey cards, a Jordan baseball card and all the steroid rookies.
I basically stopped at Nomar as well. I am sorry but the writer of this post obviously is a younger guy and these were his top choices. Here is my top ten in no particular order.
1. Clemente 1955 Topps 2. Aaron 1954 Topps 3. Williams 1954 Wilson 4. Clemente 1968 Topps 3D 5. Mantle 1952 Topps 6. Mantle 1951 Bowman 7. Cobb T3 8. Honus T206 9. Ruth Sporting News 10. Mays 1951 Bowman
Looking for high grade rookie cards and unopened boxes/cases
When I think of "iconic"... I'm thinking along the lines of baseball cards that any collector, today, of nearly any age... can say stuff like, "Man, I remember that card, what memories" or "Man, I'd love to own one of those" or "Man, I'm glad I have that ONE in my collection"! Value, while is some respect is important, but I'm also looking at cards that are 100% easily recognizable and in some way, may have made their mark on the hobby as easily the most recognizable card for a given generation of fans/collectors!
Here is my top 10 in no particular order...
T206 Wagner 1952 Topps Mantle 1989 U.D. Griffey Jr 1968 Topps Ryan/Koosman Cracker Jack Ty Cobb 1933 Goudey Ruth (take your pick) 2001 Bowman Chrome Pujols 1948 Leaf Robinson 1954 Topps Hank Aaron 1955 Topps Clemente
I disagree with the special auto cards as "iconic". Usually the base cards are the iconic ones, while the autos and limited are just the super limited versions of those base cards. Thats my opinion.
(The T206 Wagner is kind of an obvious choice, so will set that one aside)
1. Balt News Ruth - first appearance of biggest name in the game's history 2. M101 Ruth RC - true MLB rookie card of biggest name in game's history 3. 1952 Topps Mantle - regardless of the stats, The Mick captured the zeitgeist of his time like Ruth and Jordan did theirs. 4. 1951 Topps Mantle - true MLB rookie card 5. 1986 Fleer Michael Jordan RC - the "Ruth" of basketball, in terms of popularity/fame, demand by collectors, and how he popularized his sport 6. 1914 Cracker Jack Cobb OR General Baking D304 Cobb - both great images that capture his spirit and energy well, not nearly as common as his lovely T206 issues 7. 1954 Wilson Franks Williams - last man to bat .400 and standout regional issue card 8. 1968 Nolan Ryan RC - perhaps the standout HOF RC of its decade 9. 1975 Brett RC/1973 Schmidt RC - "the" iconic/standout HOF RCs of their decade 10. * a personal, generational choice I admit, but to me the 1984 Donruss Mattingly was "the" iconic/standout baseball card of its time. The 84F Updates of Gooden/Puckett/Clemens were so hot, so were the Ripkens and Strawberrys, but if you grew up in the 80s this card was emblematic of collecting at that time.
* Honorable mention to the beautiful cards of Gehrig, DiMaggio, Young, Berra, Mathewson, Shoeless Joe, Aaron, Clemente, Koufax, Rose, Reggie, Henderson, Munson, Bird/Magic and the list goes on!

<< <i>I immediately stopped the slideshow when I saw a Nomar card. >>
By far, the worst card on that list.
Argument could be made for many cards. I was thinking Molitor/Trammell, Duke Snider RC, Cobb (as you mentioned), Maris....just to name a few.
