I have exact identification information for this guy, and his mom's contact information. I'm sure they will love to know what he's been doing online. I'm giving him one last change to make this somewhat right. The charges against him are pretty steep and with a felony record, his life will be ruined. Not good for a college student. Especially with fraud on his record, he won't be able to get any decent job.
In the event that he doesn't respond by tomorrow, should I post all the identifying information here or just PM all the victims? I don't see anything wrong with identifying this thief in a public forum. Does anyone think otherwise? I'm pretty sure I have the right guy. >>
PM the other victims. Posting the info on a public forum is unnecessary and unwise (particularly the mom's info; she has no part in this as far as you know-that's a potential harassment/libel/defamation issue in the making). Your goal is to be made whole first and foremost...work towards that end rather than exposing yourself to potential problems unnecessarily.

Sucks you guys are having to deal with this over a nice 4 day holiday Summer weekend. The fact that he (the account I should say) is still active and not responding to any of this is what is really puzzling me. Maybe it's active because his account is hacked and the hacker is getting their rocks off viewing all the frustration? I dont know, I wish all of you involved the best and wish there was something I could do to help. I never did a transaction, or so much as sent a pm to him.

Fund your PP with a credit card; only tie in your bank account for sweeping funds from PP. Tying PP to a credit card gives you an extra fallback position; you can file a chargeback through the CC company as a last resort to get your money back. If the money comes from your bank account, you don't have chargeback ability.

It's not a lie I remember the thread well. It was an amount in the $30 range and you wanted PayPal gift. I laughed to myself too long to forget that one.
Thinking about it more, you're probably right and here's why. Who in their right mind would offer something for $30 and NOT want to be paid using a non-fee method of payment??? The PP fee is 10%!!!!! of what the item is being offered for. I stand corrected, you're probably right that I was smart to not take a 10% LOSS on a $30 item.

Even if you were right you are making a big deal about taking a $3 loss on $30. I see many amateur " dealers" here who think this is some kind of sport and losing anything is losing the game. To me this is a hobby and if I wanted to sell something worth $30 and I had to lose $3 to do it it's no big deal. Kinda making yourself look like a cheap skate to me.
The 10% fee is what eBay charges, up to $250. PP is 2.9% + 30c. That being said, I would offer the option to the buyer......they pick up the PP "insurance" fee if it makes them feel better.
Unfortunately, sometimes trusting a long standing member backfires.
Maybe buyers should reply to the FS thread stating they have purchased an item, or ask (but really insist) the seller to do so. If they don't within a reasonable amount of time, then the buyer should & question why the seller did not. Even if payment is by check, I have & I have seen seller list the item as "Awaiting Payment".
It will not stop 1 member from being taken, but may stop the seller from taking multiple members on the same item. Does not stop the seller from listing more, or listing multiple sets of the same thing, so just an idea.....

Pieces, The forum has a search function... Monday November 05, 2012 2:42 PM Hello everyone. Wanted
to give these a run here first rather than eBay as I have been doing lately. Please send a message if interested in anything. I can discount a little based on how many purchased. Paypal gift and Postal money orders are preferred, but I will take a check from someone I've done business with previously. Prices are delivered to your door.
I would like to sell you the Brooklyn Bridge, or at least this version of it $39 delivered.

And for anyone interested, one can apply for 1.9% Paypal. $1000 /month sales which is pretty basic.

Well, first thing is no big deal was made about anything, you brought it up, not me. I was merely defending myself after yet another personal attack from you. And thanks for having a civil discussion about all this and not slinging any mud with personal attacks...oh wait a minute, you couldn't do that either. I'm done debating about it with you. I can't make stupid smart and make someone realize that a 10% loss is a 10% loss whether it's $3 or $300, and if it comes off as being cheap as you sling the mud at me, then so be it. I just wanted to point out who attacked who first and I'll leave you with a question. Are you in the business to take 10% losses, at any time? I dont remember you doing so on anything I've ever inquired about and is most likely the reason you & I have not, and never will, do any business. Pot, kettle, black.

Offer to pick up the amount of the fee. As a PP recipient, I can appreciate getting one's funds faster but once the fee exceeds a certain amount my enthusiasm wanes quickly.
It's unfortunate that some members here had issues with an alleged rogue trader. I hope everything works out for those invovled.
It's also unfortunate that some also think it's OK to take money that belongs to paypal and put it in their own pocket, using whatever 'logic' they do.

Not to get off topic, but when eBay makes me have to use PayPal, and I do a lot of business on there. A "gift" from a fellow collector doesn't bother me.

Nor I. eBay/Paypal is absolutely the pinnacle of greed, and what does a seller get out of it? If you're a seller, they sure aren't out to help you. Why can't they do what every other auction house does, charge the seller AND the buyer a fee which would reduce the fee% of the seller, at least I'd hope it would lol.
To forgive is to free a prisoner, and to discover that prisoner was you.
Sounds right up there with the old "CAM" job. Why does everybody use "XXX" when using his name, did I miss something? What was the name of the guy with the bad teeth that fleeced the boards for money? I know he is back on the boards.
I wish the search functions on here worked better. Some old threads should be revisited every once in awhile. It's unfortunate this kind of stuff happens.

here ya go, ask and ye shall get (hint, use IE and the search function works perfectly)
Yes, it is eerily like Cam. I hope the folks get their money restored and aren't out anything and I hope these young people realize that gambling/drinking/drugs are things to stay away from. If one is going to gamble, use ONLY discretionary income (just like a lot of us do when buying coins as well....don't overextend).
I am also glad that no one appears to have stooped to posting personal info in the thread....very uncool to do so if it were to happen. If there were any error, it would be too late to close Pandora's box. As to "tattling" to the parents via facebook, etc......interesting tactic in shaming someone. If it were me, I would have a few words with my kid, privately, but I would also rip into the person trying to go that route...if my kid were 18 or over.
For the whole paypal gift issue, that never ends.....I have used it, for cash gifts to/from family. I like it. Quick and easy. For purchases, some folks have asked for it and, if I choose to do business with them, and I am comfortable with the overall price, I use it BUT I fund it from my CC and I pay the fee. That is a choice that can be done and that's what I do. I don't like to take risks, especially when dealing with someone I don't know. For the flip side, if that isn't good enough for someone I am dealing with, then I will move on....or use check/MO if I really want it. There was an ex-member here who would frequently post something to sell and wanted the money right away...turns out it was for a drug habit. Yes, once someone gets the money, they can do what they want with it, but if I can avoid helping someone's drug habit, I will.
For the whole "10%" loss......as stated, and ignored, by someone, paypal isn't 10%. 2.9% +$0.30. Not sure how hard that is to grasp. For the whole "loss" part....taking a loss may not be someone's ideal way of running a business but many successful businesses do it, particularly in stocks/PMs, as prices fluctuate and people want to exchange for other items (ie...get capital and buy something else). At the end of the day, the price is the price and I don't care if you are making a profit or taking a loss. I don't want to hear the whine. Stop trying to justify shafting another business because YOU want to use them but not pay them for what you know you should. Besides, if you are legitimately making it a business and filing taxes, etc, for your gains, then taking a little bit of an offsetting loss is not a big thing. May even be useful to get the capital back in a quick fashion. I, personally, don't like to take losses, but I have and I don't do this as a business nor do I claim to.
And, now I have been swept up into going OT in this thread...I wish people would allow threads to stay on topic and not bring up their own little questions/wants to derail a thread

That sounds like a pretty good start to me.
My icon IS my coin. It is a gem 1949 FBL Franklin.
<< <i>You expected PayPal gift on all your transactions. I remember you once offered about $30 of silver for sale and wanted paypal gift. What's the fee on $30? You expected a lot of trust
If you're talking to me, that's just a flat out lie. I have never offered as little as a $30 item by itself here and expected PPG as payment. >>
Pieces,
The forum has a search function...

Thinking about it more, you're probably right and here's why. Who in their right mind would offer something for $30 and NOT want to be paid using a non-fee method of payment??? The PP fee is 10%!!!!! of what the item is being offered for. I stand corrected, you're probably right that I was smart to not take a 10% LOSS on a $30 item

<< <i>Fund your PP with a credit card; only tie in your bank account for sweeping funds from PP. Tying PP to a credit card gives you an extra fallback position; you can file a chargeback through the CC company as a last resort to get your money back. If the money comes from your bank account, you don't have chargeback ability. >>
A real issue is that some sellers here on the BST ask for Paypal gift only. >>
Offer to pick up the amount of the fee. As a PP recipient, I can appreciate getting one's funds faster but once the fee exceeds a certain amount my enthusiasm wanes quickly.
It's also unfortunate that some also think it's OK to take money that belongs to paypal and put it in their own pocket, using whatever 'logic' they do.
<< <i>It's unfortunate that some members here had issues with an alleged rogue trader. I hope everything works out for those invovled.

Sounds right up there with the old "CAM" job. Why does everybody use "XXX" when using his name, did I miss something? What was the name of the guy with the bad teeth that fleeced the boards for money? I know he is back on the boards.
Sure sorry to hear about this. Don't give up.
Yes, yes. Hendrixkat, that was it! Classic!!!
I wish the search functions on here worked better. Some old threads should be revisited every once in awhile. It's unfortunate this kind of stuff happens.

Much prefer Firefox or Safari, depending on which computer I am using.
<< <i>Don't care for IE.

I prefer IE myself
As to this whole mess still going on....
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
