Buyer Beware "DickyBetz"
I purchased some silver from a long standing member here. I am in the process of filing a claim thru paypal after non receipt and no proof of tracking. Just letting everybody know, at this time. If anything changes I will update.

I was giving him the benefit of the doubt. I thought he was away from his computer, since he isn't responding to my emails.
He is not answering PMs.
Check not yet cashed. Sent June 15.
I blocked payment on it today.
If he was ill or had a family emergency it does not add up as he appears to have sold same itm to several members here!
Good luck all.
i just about pulled the trigger when i first saw it!
<< <i>Yo, I also sent payment via personal check for the 5 rolls of silver quarters.

You have an address on him then. Or at least the address that you sent the payment to. You could call up his local police station and report the incident. I'm sure they will go over and try to find out what's going on. If indeed it's an emergency, we'll at least know. He most likely tried to defraud us if he sold the same thing to at least 3 people. I have zero tolerance for these kinds of people.
Also noticed that his paypal address is unverified.

I offered to pay with Paypal gift, so he could save on fees. For that, I had to fund with my checking account. I already filed a dispute with Paypal, but I doubt it will go through. Should I just go to the bank and explain the situation? That it was a Paypal issue and that Paypal didn't resolve it properly?
Let me tell you the folks sticking up for some of these people by saying oh give em a little time , he might have had an emergency. BULL SHT
3 years ago when I was robbed and beaten nearly to death at the store, and airlifted to UNC hospital, after I came too about two days later, I had a friend contact all my ebay buyers, and all BST contacts as well as make customer calls. Had him process all the stuff and get the coins and payments out ASAP. This two weeks no response (no excuses, unless he is dead)
Coin's for sale/trade.

<< <i>How does our host deal with this since it occurred on the BST board? >>
Not their problem. I had a similar situation on a camera forum. 9 people were taken by the same guy. All got together and called his local police department the same day. The police were shocked as he was known in the community, just got oer his head and greedy. We got our money back, the court forced sale of his home and he is not allowed to use a computer for a few years.
Leave PCGS out of it, get together and get some complaints going. There is also a place to report online fraud.
<< <i>Any suggestions on how i might be able to handle this?

I hope you resolve this and get your money or silver quickly ... but, oh the irony. You and the seller conspired to defraud PayPal (which is what it is when you use "gift" to purchase goods or services) and now the seller is possibly defrauding you and some other members. Now adding the bank to the conspiracy (since PayPal has no real "issue" to resolve ... you gave a gift)? While I certainly hope you get your money or the silver, be careful where you point the finger of accusation.

I'm going to explain to my bank what happened. If they still agree to dispute it, great! If not, I guess I'm out $750. Going forward, I'm going to stick to using checks or money orders.
<< <i>mariner67 - Could you PM me and the others who bought from him, the address you mailed the check to? I will call the local PD and report the incident. >>
Fowarded info to you via PM.
I am traveling now with limited time/internet access.
Please forward to others as needed.
Thanks and good luck.

It's against Paypal's terms of service and not fraud. There is a huge difference. It's like saying that any high school kid who uses a cell phone in class when there is a school policy of "no cell phone use in class" is guilty of fraud!
<< <i>Before anyone else sticks up for this guy he hasn't logged in since 2 days after running the thread. Agreed the potential losses are not the hosts "problem" but they do provide him "permission" to use this site! I hardly believe they will sit idly by and allow anyone to perpetrate fraud on their website...... Don intervenes when threads go awry, I expect some form of intervention when a fraud is committed....

I don't agree and be careful what you wish for. If PCGS were to be compelled to accept any responsibility for the actions of a thief, I could see them shutting down the BS&T very quickly.
I feel really bad for those who've lost money and hope you're made whole when all is said and done.

If they committed all-out fraud don't you think that would kind of take care of itself? I don't think someone that took off with a bunch of people's cash is going to be quick to post again.
I would just assume leave PCGS out of it or I would think more than likely they would just shut BST down and that would be a huge loss to the CU community. You even hinting at any responsibility for intervention makes me nervous.

Maybe you can just wait and see. If something is going on, and he would like to post, I would like to see it...rather than nuke him and not hear anything.
I hope that the buyers get the goods or their money back.
I also wish people would stop trying to bend the rules with the paypal gift thing and either factor it into the cost and use regular paypal or know what it means if you use gift and what you are opening yourself up for (ie.....don't complain, don't whine, and don't try to get anything back if it is screwed up).
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
Bank has reversed it.
Seems he/she is active.
Edited for spelling.
Fraud of this sort usually, not always as there can always be complete fraud, comes when prices for the items/PMs go UP.
They have been going down.

I agree, I think PCGS in some way should be responsible for taking care of this fraud in part by removing the said member off the board.
This is horrible news and I hope all the parties affected get their money and/or goods back. My heart goes out to all of you, except the dingbat who did this.
Edit: That's why ive always believed sometimes the people we trust don't always turn out to deliver on what they promise on places like the internet. my husband and i never did "internet" buying until he convinced me otherwise. before, we would go through reputable mail order means and order our coins or supplies through there. now i am sure some of the people who get a bad rap here aren't always this degree of criminal as this long trusted "Dicky" idiot is. goes to show, sometimes the right people are wronged and the wrong people are righted in the court of public opinion on the internet. there is no sure thing when you never met the guy and have done business with him ever in person. in this case, this guy has to go and we should be more vigilant next time when using the BST for buying and trading goods.

anyone remember Darin W a looooooooooooooooong time poster who scammed how many CU members and possible others on ebaY?
I was this close in sending him a bunch of GSA dollars for him to sell.

How do you know this isn't the same Darin W.? I remember selling coins to him for another person. Fortunately I got paid before he turned rancid and toxic.

The point of my post was not to pick on Darin W...his name was that came to me; another is CAMXXXXX....I've dealt w/both of these individuals.
My point was/is that a loooooooooooooong time poster does NOT equate to trustworthiness.
This IS very true.
And there is no way our hosts should bear any responsibility. The responsibility lies on both seller AND buyer. If you 'gift', you are taking a gamble anytime, realistically, and have no recourse from PP. You sent a gift for hundreds of dollars, but it turns out you actually bought something to circumvent their fees, and want their help getting your 'gift' back? No WAY PP wants to be part of THAT, and would more than likely be rippin'. I wonder if they could 'penalize' you for doing that????
I'm not trying to be harsh on those that bought, believe me, I feel for you, and hope somehow you can all be reimbursed (it's crazy that check was attempted to be cashed...this thread started at JUST the right time, or that check might well have been cashed). And the fact it was a well-known member, who was liked, you shouldn't have had to worry about it, and I could see there being a sense of 'comfy' with gifting it (I have gifted plenty of times...I must thank all I have dealt with that way). It just stinks for all those affected....but our hosts should not be responsible for anything. We deal of our own free will out here, they aren't running an auction site or being a 'dealer' here. It is NORMALLY a better way to get better coins at decent-good prices, but I guess we take the same chances as those who get scammed on ebay, just without the buyer protection, which is why 'gifting' can be dangerous. I won't gift to just anyone.
Did the thought that, perhaps he got 'hijacked' here? Or is the consensus that the original member turned scammer/thief? Good luck to all in getting their money back!
I notice sellers profile says NJ, but someone indicated Columbus PD (OH?)
Perhaps seller was hacked and his account compromised - not sure how to see activity before last post. Was he dormant for a while then post for sale send to OH?
RAD#306
In any case, I will still continue using PP gift, but I will only do that for active members that I've interacted with. I'll be a little more careful next time. One bad experience won't change my perception of this wonderful online community.
RIP Mom- 1932-2012
Very disturbing if so.
There is a lot of good will and trust on these boards.
