Smart Bullion Cards

Anyone seen these? Basically, various size gold bars in an assay card which also has an RFID chip and QR code. Basically an extra layer of security, much better than a plain, engraved serial number.

Interesting...but added cost and under dire conditions, the 'extras' would likely be worthless. PM's as coins will be very liquid, these, not so much. Cheers, RickO

Agreed, people keep trying to come out with the "Next best thing" but there is always a premium that a lot of people just do not want to pay. The best I could see is someone buying one just to use as a conversation piece or maybe a gift to someone else. That said, usually people buy the most bang for their buck, the premiums make these cost prohibitive. Though... I am assuming because I did not see the prices...lol.

They should make these cards with a calculator in them that you can plug the spot price in and it calculates the price value of the gold within the card.

Agreed, definitely a novelty. Good for a first time or casual stacker though. They do say that the QR code will also give a value for the bar.

IMO pretty much any bars <5 grams tend to have such crazy premiums that from an investment standpoint they're very unappealing. The premiums they are offering the bars at on their site are:

    1 oz 5%
    10g 13%
    5g 19%
    2.5g 35%
    1g 50%
