Next Ebay Jerk to block

Here's the story with this clown. His ebay I.D. is wingman713.
A few days ago I wake up and notice a message on my ebay account asking about the condition of an item. I responded only to realize he had already purchased the item as a BIN the night before. Over the next few hours we exchanged several messages over which we discussed the condition, how it would be mailed, when it would be mailed, etc.(all of which were already explained in the listing). From the exchanges I know this guy was not going to be happy with whatever he got and when he would get it. In other words I already smelled a rat. Towards the end of the email exchanges I strongly suggested that I simply refund his money and we cancel the transaction. His response was no, that he wanted the cards and that he would be happy if everything went as planned.
Fast forward a few days later and of course there is a case open. I have struggled to read through his comments to try and find a reason for his unhappiness. What I've concluded is that he thinks the cards were misrepresented (of course he doesn't say how) and that he feels he deserves a partial refund of $8 (not sure of how he calculated that....probably a mid-air grab of a number he had in mind when he purchased the cards).
As a seller I think this is my first case and therefore my first run-in with an idiot. My plan is to offer this clown his money back minus shipping once the cards are returned. I know this won't make him happy because I am sure he is happy with the cards and only wants to screw me. My question is this: Is there a better way to handle this idiot that I don't know of? I don't think there is but I want to be sure before I answer the case and I figure some of you guys have undoubtedly been through this before.

<< <i>oh man this guy did the same thing with me a few days ago. after the constant going back and forth and haggling with the price (told him it was firm) i decided to just block him...then he pleaded with me to unblock him blah blah. long story short he bought the item, and now something is wrong with the shipping (package seems to be lost somewhere). i'm sure if USPS mix up somehow and deliver w/o scanning he'll gladly hose me for it and try to get his money back.
should've just stuck to my gun and kept him block. now even if the item gets delivered i feel he'll pull the same stunt. >>
I should've just went with my instincts, refunded him and blocked him before ever sending the item. Then again I'm not sure that you can do that without them first accepting so.
You live/learn I guess. But definitely if he receives your item expect the same stunt. I wonder if you/I can trace his recent buys and contact those people? Then again even if we could get him kicked off ebay there's all sorts of ways to get around it and start a new account so I don't know how much it would even help.

Looks like he will complain just about anything.
"This Was Saturated with SMOKE. Pages even inside shrink wrap Smells like SMOKE" Seller-This was a factory shrink sealed box. All that were sold positive feedback left
The bait and switch with the card case. "Was OK, Condition Was Not VERY NICE. DID Not Receive Same Case."
What a joke.

But you're probably going to receive a neutral or negative if you don't cave in and issue the partial refund, so you'll have to decide if it's worth it.
Regardless of what you decide to do, I'd recommend removing the following from your listings:
"If you have ANY issues with an auction that you win please contact me so we can try to rectify the situation. I’ve got a perfect score on here that I’d like to keep going."
It is an open invitation for the disreputable guys looking for partial refunds.
Thanks for the advice. I actually offered to repay him his shipping, my original shipping, full refund for the card, and free shipping if he ever orders again. I got no repsonse. I did this when I was at the hospital early on with my daughter. I say this because I offered this way before he negged me. Once I returned home I even sent him the correct item. So now he has my money, item, and neg given. What gives?

That definitely sucks but it's one of the costs of doing business. If you have 4K transactions and this is the first one that went bad - and it's for a low dollar amount - you re doing very well. All businesses have bad debt and loss.
Sounds like you just ran in to a jerk. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater, Ebay is likely still be best place to move your inventory.
<< <i>I would tell the buyer he can return the merchandise for a full refund including the original shipping charges. The buyer would need to pay for the return shipping. I wouldn't give a partial refund.

I definitely called the clown out on his game. He then called me a few "not-so-nice" names and did some other childish things. I did exactly what you recommended as far as telling him to return the cards for a refund and haven't heard back since. Thanks also for noticing that comment at the bottom of the auctions....the more I look at that it kind of is indeed an open invitation to jerk-offs like this guy and I need to get to work at removing it.
Makes me wonder how many other times this guy has pulled this scam....probably every time he buys something.
<< <i>The buyer "wins" if you leave ebay because of this. What you should really do is not care so much. Just respond to the feedback with an appropriate response, block the guy and move on. 1 negative won't destroy your business, but letting small things get to you too much will.

Not everyone buys from only the sellers with 100% feedback.
